Thread: Keeping track of how politicians benefit from amnesty etc.

I'm wondering if we could create a kind on on-going chart that lists the names of all Senators and Congressmen along with our top three issues and how they would personally benefit. I tried to make this as a chart, but that capability is not there. It would look like this:

Column 1: Name of politician Column 2: issue 1 Column 3: issue 2 For example,

Name of politician: Nancy Pelosi
Benefits from Amnest: Money made from vineyards. Needs cheap labor
Benefits from stay in Iraq
Benefit from NAFTA:
Personal benefit from NAU/Texas corrider:

Once we have a list of how each would personally benefit, we watch the way they VOTE! I suspect that we have some conflict of interest going on!

It would have to go even further. IF we could get inside information on money passing through hands behind the doors that would blow the lid off.

I could just see Glenn Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Malkin, Ingraham chew on that information for a good long time.

I think we need to start pushing our Congressmen to pass Rep. Heath Schuler's SAVE Act. Last I heard Pelosi was putting the heat on Dem. sponsors to drop it. Anybody heard anything? The SAVE Act, which has so far made good progress, would be a coup de grace for the good guys.

The last report I had from Numbersusa was that some Republicans were holding it up to go to vote because they needed to sign onto a certain procedure to bring it vote.

I'm really serious about this "benefits" chart. If there could be one place on the site that could collect reports and stories on the subject, it would be a powerful tool. When politicians are shown to have a vested interest in a decision going a certain way, they are not serving the public good. They would not like that information getting around!

What would we do with the chart or survey once we have it? Try to get someone to publish it?

Absolutely! Publish it when we are threatened with such politicians doing the wrong thing and not standing up for the American people. It could be part of letters sent. Something like: "We are quite aware of the benefit to you if such a bill is passed. We are asking you to put your own interests aside and do what is best for the country. That is why we elected you--to serve the people!" Now they have to weigh whether they want to be seen as self-serving or as serving the country.

I've had a similar idea to publish an online politician blacklist. I haven't seen anything like this but if someone knows of one, let me know.

The strength of Alipac is that there are so many of us from all over the US--and we are all looking for evidence to strengthen our cause. This would be a gradual collection effort similar to what William has for news releases on the Discussion Groups section.
