Thank you for contacting Gov. Mike Easley on this important issue.



Gov. Easley says it is in North Carolina’s interest to allow immigrants to attend North Carolina community colleges if they qualify and pay out-of-state tuition. Out of state tuition more than covers the cost of the service, so no tax dollars pay for their education. These are young people who were brought here as babies or youngsters, through no fault of their own. They distinguished themselves in our public schools.



Gov. Easley will not grind a heel in their faces and slam doors on them. The community college systems must be open to everyone so they can become productive members of our society and help North Carolina and America compete in the world economy. To do otherwise would be to set a policy that is destined to build a weaker North Carolina. We do not want to reap the consequences of that.



Denying immigrants access to community colleges does not penalize them, it penalizes our state and innocent children. Any problems with immigration exist because of the United States Congress’ failure to accept its Constitutional responsibility to deal honestly with immigration policies.

Your love affair with illegal aliens is disgusting and your abject disregard for the citizens of North Carolina is alarming. No one is grinding any heels into illegal aliens by denying them benefits they are not entitled to receive. Look up the definition of illegal, as I assume you are a relatively smart man. Nor are they having doors slammed shut on them since doors should not be opened to these invaders anyway as they are ILLEGALLY in our country and are ILLEGALLY in our state.

Obviously you have no clue that that the benefits of citizenship are reserved for CITIZENS, not ILLEGAL ALIENS!

NC attorney general asked to review college enrollment policy

A candidate for North Carolina governor wants Attorney General Roy Cooper to weigh in on a new policy that requires community colleges to admit eligible illegal immigrants.

A policy issued last month removed the discretion community colleges had in accepting undocumented applicants.

State Senator Fred Smith told Cooper on Monday that the policy appears to contradict federal and state laws related to illegal immigrants and established community college system rules.

Smith also says any changes need to be approved by the state Legislature.

The five leading major-party candidates for governor, including Smith, are opposed to the change. Democratic Governor Mike Easley supports the new policy but is barred from seeking a third consecutive term.
