Most Americans say they wouldn’t support a democratic socialist presidential candidate, according to a new poll.
In The Washington Post/Ipsos poll, 55 percent of respondents said they wouldn’t “consider” casting their ballot for a self-identified democratic socialist presidential candidate, while 39 percent said the opposite and 6 percent did not respond.Democratic socialists have recently stepped into the national spotlight with notable primary wins in places such as New York and Colorado. One win was that of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani last year against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic mayoral primary. Mamdani has now become one of the most prominent Democrats in the country.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), another prominent democratic socialist, is one of a few names being discussed as a possible 2028 presidential contender.
Proponents of democratic socialism advocate for progressive change and a rebuke of leadership from the so-called capitalist class. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), one of the largest democratic socialist organizations in the U.S., describes its vision for the country as “a system where ordinary people have a real voice in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and society.”
The Post/Ipsos poll also found 15 percent of respondents said they like democratic socialist political leaders either “a lot” or “a little,” with 36 percent saying they dislike the leaders either “a lot” or “a little.” Forty-six percent of respondents said they “neither like nor dislike” democratic socialist leaders.
The Post/Ipsos poll took place from July 8 to 13, featuring 2,648 participants and a margin of error of 1.9 percentage points.

Survey Says Most Won’t Vote For Democratic Socialist Wackos

But, when election time comes, will they? Most say they wouldn’t back democratic socialist presidential candidate: SurveySadly, the poll doesn’t have any toplines or distinction between parties/political belief, it simply asks the question of voting and breaks between those 3 answers.

A follow up question asks about the DSA wackos influence on the Dem party, with 30% saying too much influence, 15% too little, 15% just right, and 41% not sure. It would be fantastic to see how Democrats and Independents feel about these questions. The DSA crap seems to work well in hardcore Dem run cities, at least for the moment, but, will that continue? Some Wisconsin Democrats claim they’ll vote Republican if democratic socialist Francesca Hong wins primaryHow much of her rise was driven by the wacko extreme of the Dem party, which is now colliding with the reality that the average Democrat voter may have TDS, but, aren’t interested in the Socialist wacko agenda?
Wisconsin voter Ian Anderson couldn’t have been happier to cast his ballot Tuesday for democratic socialist Francesca Hong in the swing state’s primary for governor.
“She’s exactly the burst of energy we need,” Anderson said after voting early in the liberal stronghold of Madison.
But 80 miles down the road in Milwaukee, Democratic voter Steve Wiesner said if Hong wins the Aug. 11 primary he will vote Republican for the first time in his life.
“I would never support her or any DSA candidate at this point,” Wiesner said, using the acronym for Democratic Socialists of America. He voted for long-shot candidate Joel Brennan.
But a chaotic primary, and the rise of Hong, has amplified angst among voters and party insiders that Democrats may be squandering their chances to retain control of the governor’s office and flip both chambers of the Legislature to earn full control of Wisconsin state government for the first time since 2010.
