I have been curious about how this drama has played out. Can't find anything. Anybody know?

So what's the premise behind a hunger strike. Either give into our demands or we will starve ourselves to death and it will be your fault because you could have given into our demands and saved us!

Well then starve to death for all I care! If there was any justice, your @$$ would be deported long before you even experienced your first pang of hunger!

Anybody what to pitch in to buy them a ticket to Mexico along with legal immigrant application forms? That is how everyone else in the world does it, they can also.

    Editorial: Hunger striking out
    Saturday, June 26, 2010
    (Updated 3:00 am)

A fast meant to draw attention to immigration issues turned into a hunger strike by three young women trying to put pressure on Sen. Kay Hagan.

They're using the wrong means to influence an elected official and should give up before they harm themselves.

Rosario Lopez, 25, Viridiana Martinez, 23, and Loida Silva, 22, have been staying in tents across the street from the legislative building in Raleigh since June 14, ingesting fluids but not solid food. They say they won't eat until Hagan agrees to co-sponsor the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2009, which would clear a path for young illegal immigrants to attend public universities at in-state tuition and achieve citizenship.

While their courage and commitment are admirable, their action puts Hagan in an unfair position. She ought to make up her mind according to her own judgment and the interests of her constituents, not the women's threat to starve themselves.

Hagan did meet with the three but has declined to join the bill's 40 Senate co-sponsors. She wants to see more comprehensive immigration reform enacted, which is a sensible approach.

The protesters are not helping their cause. All three admit they aren't legal residents of the United States. Although they were brought to this country as minors by illegal immigrant parents, they're adults now and understand the consequences of remaining without authorization. They may think they're treated unjustly, but the argument that they should enjoy the same rights and privileges as citizens just because they've lived here since childhood doesn't convince everyone.

This episode began May 28 with a fast by students intended to promote the legislation in Congress and win Hagan's backing for it. The fast was supported by El Pueblo Inc., a Raleigh advocacy organization. Lopez, Martinez and Silva extended the fast into a hunger strike.

As of Friday, they were tired and each had lost about 10 pounds, said El Pueblo treasurer Pablo Escobar. He emphasized that a doctor was visiting them regularly and would tell them when they were in physical danger. At that point, Escobar said, he thought they would relent.

They also could declare their action a success and stop if they determine that enough people have called Hagan's office to voice support for the bill, Escobar added. In fact, Hagan's office has received many calls and e-mails on both sides of the issue, a staff member said Friday.

Now is the time to give up the hunger strike. The three have raised awareness and generated conversation about immigration issues. Nothing more can be accomplished by continuing their fast.

    They still kicking?

If so then, are they weak at all?

Better save the meals they didn't eat for them, which is what any good parent does to their children.

Am I understanding the illegal aliens correctly?

THEY want AMERICANS to PARENT them - meaning, take care of them and give them everything they demand.

    Right?

Illegal aliens want Americans to be their parents?

Well, any GOOD parent will EDUCATE the child how to mature, so they can be a BETTER ADULT than they were an immature child.

So, let's teach them some lessons and some manners.

    What do you think?

Any psychologist will tell you that illegal aliens are screaming for some adult direction and attention.

Time for the LESSONS and CONSEQUENCES to start rolling in their direction. They're long over due, because like children they're crying, stomping, and threatening to die (which is what this starvation hype is all about - just like kids do).

Too bad the illegal aliens don't run away from home. Now THAT would be productive. Run away from America and "we the people" will open the door for you.

Don't let the door hit you in the back side!

    Buh Bye.

    Don't come back.

i feel no sympathy for these girls ... sounds like they were brought over as TEENAGERS , which means they not only grew up in their home countries , but are familiar with their respective native cultures ...

their pretty , well educated girls ... they won't die if they get sent home ...

just once i'd like to see ICE do something that's not PC such as driving up to them while their protesting and arresting them ...

Illegal Immigrant On Hunger Strike Hospitalized, Released
Protestors Camped Near Sen. Hagan's Office

    POSTED: 11:55 am EDT June 28, 2010

RALEIGH -- A woman living in the U.S. illegally was briefly hospitalized after a heat stroke during a hunger strike outside a North Carolina senator's office.

A spokesman for the hunger strikers said 22-year-old Loida Silva was resting at home Monday after she was treated at a hospital the night before.

Silva had been camped out since June 14 with two other women near the local office of Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan.

They want Hagan to support federal legislation called the DREAM Act that would give some undocumented immigrants permanent residency by attending college or serving in the military.

The women came to North Carolina as children. They said their status gives them little hope of improving their lives.

Hagan's office said she won't co-sponsor the bill.

Oh, they're still hanging out, unchallenged and getting media attention regularly. Isn't it interesting that in a 287g county no one has hauled them off to the pokey?

In a radio interview yesterday, one of them made a point to mention that no one had come down and challenged their protest in person. No one!

In the blue state of North Carolina these girls are winning support from the majority liberal Democrat population, and while Hagan publicly denies support for the DREAM Act or similar legislation, she is a closet supporter of all things liberal.

Why wasn't she deported? So much for this living in the shadow bullshit! These illegal invaders are as brazen as they want to be because they do not have a fear in the world of ever being deported.

I would be ashamed if I were in a position of leadership in this country. These invaders are sticking their middle finger in your face and you do nothing about it!

    Disgraceful!
