Everyone must learn this. ALWAYS wash your hands when out. NEVER open a public restroom door after being in there. OPEN THE DOOR WITH A PAPER TOWEL.

I have a friend who is a nurse and she taught me this years ago. If you have to touch the towel lever to get the towel after washing, get the towel first tuck it under your arm and wash then get a new towel, dry, and open the door to leave. If its one of the new towel dispensers that you wave your hand over, no problem. Sounds crazy but folks this is serious.


Senator Sessions needs to hit this hard when we fight the Dream Act. There are too many loopholes about people coming here without health checks. We need to get this BORDER SECURED and no entries without health checks and standing in line like all other entries.

San Antonio Clinic Treats 300-500 Staph Infections A Month

A Texas MedClinic doctor said Wednesday that a deadly strain of staph infection called MRSA, believed to have killed a 17-year-old Virginia high school senior, is becoming increasing common in San Antonio.

Dr. David Gude of the Texas MedClinic said last year the clinic recorded more than 600 MRSA cases, but this year, it has recorded almost that many being reported on a monthly basis.

"This year we are seeing 300 to 500 cases per month across our locations," Gude said.

On a national scale, MRSA is suspected of killing more Americans each year than the AIDS virus.

Gude said antibiotics are completely useless in treating the infection that is commonly spread through day cares, gyms and locker rooms.

Gude said a person needs to seek medical attention if they have what looks like a bite or an abrasion, warm to the touch, that does not heal in 48 hours.

He said if MRSA is not treated, it can spread to the bloodstream.

Gude said good sanitation practice could prevent contracting MRSA.

"Wash your hands a lot because good hand-washing is the No. 1 way to protect yourself," he said.

Symptoms of MRSA may include redness, warmth, swelling, tenderness of the skin and boils or blisters.

jjmm, so true. Our family doctor told me that what he had learned was that these superbugs developed when people did not finish taking their antibiotics as told to, when they had infections. After years of people doing this, these superbugs developed their own resistance to the medications we had. Bascially not taking the full round of antibiotics was simply allowing the bacteria to make it's own immunity to our medications.

And yes, the overuse of antbiotic everything has not helped. In our household we have never bought anything "antibacterial". I see no need, so long as we wash properly and when I clean a plastic (don't use wood!) cutting board after the presence of meat, I simply use HOT soapy water, same with the counters. We have NEVER been sick from food poisoning, let alone any superbugs.

The reason this staph is resistant to antibiotics, is because in Mexico, antibiotics are sold OVER THE COUNTER! Ask me, I stayed in Mexico two weeks and my eyes about POPPED out of their sockets when I learned of this!

So the majority of Mexicans (and Third World countries in general) abuse antibiotics for ANY aliment, thus they build up an immunity to antibiotics and thus, a resilient 'super bug' is born.

And being that it broke out in Oklahoma, a former (and still) a sanctuary haven, says a lot too eh?

Illegal aliens bring into this country drug resistent T.B., chagas disease, brain worm, e-coli, and now this??!!!!!!!!!!! Disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The local Atlanta news brought this staph infection up tonight. If I heard it correctly, there is a problem with it in South Georgia.

I know there is a huge illegal population in Valdosta.

I'll try to look into it and post anything I find over the weekend.

They did not allow any workouts today at the local high school, and are disinfecting all equiptment due to a person having staph... we just don't know yet if it is the deadly strain or not.

Another good reason for strict laws on renting to illegal aliens. Overcrowded living conditions are probably the numero uno way in which these germs spread.

I had read two months ago that one of the biggest havens of illegals, Chicago, was experiencing a sharp rise in staph. So now it is finally nation wide news!! Of course (yawn) it won't become news in the US Congress for another five years.

Scares me to death. And I took care of two MERSA patients myself today ...eeek.

They say we've also brought this on ourselves, by the overuse of antibiotics, and antibacterial soaps, etc. Bugs are just finding a way to get around all the barriers.

Take care of your hands. Keep them lotioned and don't let any areas that are raw or reddened or open get in contact with surfaces.

You just have to be careful these days.

The "overuse" of antibiotics is a huge cause, but illegal aliens using hospitals as health clinics is another big cause of the outbreaks. This was never a problem until they started coming here by the thousands.
