    THIS IS NOT GOOD!

WASHINGTON - Senate leaders reached a deal Thursday on reviving a broad immigration bill that could provide millions of illegal immigrants a chance to become American citizens and said they'll try to pass it before Memorial Day.

The agreement brokered by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., and Minority Harry Reid, D-Nev., breaks a political stalemate that has lingered for weeks while immigrants and their supporters held rallies, boycotts and protests to push for action.

Key to the agreement is who will be negotiating a compromise with the House, which last December passed an enforcement-only bill that would subject the estimated 11 million to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to felony charges as well as deportation.

Frist said the Senate will send 14 Republicans and 12 Democrats to negotiate with the House, with seven of the Republicans coming from the Judiciary Committee and seven of the Democrats chosen by Reid.

Frist said a "considerable" number of amendments would be debated when the Senate begins debating the bill early next week.

It would be the most comprehensive rewrite of immigration laws since the so-called Simpson-Mazzoli bill some 20 years ago.

    Yep, especially Kennedy!!!!!!!!!!

This is why you must call your out of state friends and family and ask them to call or e-mail their congressmen. They are the ones that elected the fools.

Also, when you e-mail a congressmen, through a form don't change the state.....

Just got another letter yesterday from Ted Kennedy stating his position, we are on a first name basis he and I as I write, call or email him so much. John Kerry on the other hand I have gotten no replies from the numerous calls, emails and letters I have written to him. Jerk!!!

I did read that article above this morning and I am outraged that they are still ignoring us. I keep on writing, calling and emailing, if they pass this bill for amnesty/earned citizenship and do not secure our borders they will surely pay this November, you have my word on that as an american taxpayer and voter

I write that idiot (Kennedy) all the time. Below is his latest response to me. Blah blah blah... just more BS. I am emailing everyone I know here in MA to have them write Kennedy. Most people are afraid.

    Dear .

Thank you for contacting me concerning the ongoing debate over immigration reform. This is a complex issue, with many concerns, and it requires a comprehensive solution. 12 million undocumented workers are currently living in the United States, working, paying taxes, and raising children who are U.S. citizens. These undocumented immigrants contribute to our economy, and it is long past time to provide legal avenues to bring them out from the shadows.

Border enforcement has increased dramatically from 1990 to 2004. The budget for the Border Patrol has increased from $263 million in 1990 to $1.6 billion today - a six-fold increase. During this period, between 480,000 and 660,000 undocumented immigrants entered the U.S. each year. In all, nearly 9 million have arrived since 1990. Our immigration system is broken, and enforcement alone will not fix it.

We need realistic and comprehensive solutions that will protect our borders, enable temporary workers to enter the country legally, and allow workers already here to earn legal status. I’m proud to be a sponsor, with Senator McCain, of the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, a comprehensive reform of our nation’s immigration system. Under our proposal undocumented immigrants who wish to become citizens must show they are currently working, pay a $2000 fine, work for an additional six years, pass security checks, pay taxes, learn to speak English, learn about American civics, and get in line behind all other legal immigrants before being eligible for a green card.

Border Security is addressed in the bill. It establishes a National Border Security Strategy, based on "smart" border technology, information sharing, and cooperation with our neighbors. A new temporary visa will be created to allow foreign workers to enter the U.S. The visa will be valid for 3 years, and can be renewed one time for a total of 6 years. Enforcement of current laws will be strengthened, improving fraud detection and allowing random audits of employers to ensure compliance with existing labor laws. Unnecessary obstacles preventing families from being together when immigrating to the U.S. are also removed. The bill will enable undocumented immigrants to come out of the shadows, submit to background checks, and register for legal status. During this time, they would have to continue working, play by the rules, and pay substantial fines and back taxes. The bill is not an amnesty, which implies that all is forgiven. It is not. Undocumented workers must pay fines and go to the back of the line before earning a chance for citizenship.

By heritage and history, America is a nation of immigrants. Our bill proposes necessary changes in the law while preserving this tradition. These necessary changes will ensure that immigrant families today, as in the past, continue to live the American dream and contribute to our prosperity, our security, and our values.

Again, thank you for writing to me about this important issue.

    Sincerely,
    Edward M. Kennedy

You don't even want to know the exchange I had with Jim Moran of VA.

Allen is on board with guest worker provisions, but no path to citizenship; Warner seems to go along as long as no one detonates a device at the border. That would affect National Security - one of his committees

The word is out and the emails should be going out soon.

If protests matter, I wonder how long it would take to round up a few million irate citizens to tie up traffic and make alot of noise? Of course, they would also be sending emails from the blackberry!

I do hope you are right. As of late, I am losing faith in some people in our state. Maybe you and I should start a campaign to oust Kennedy.

Good idea Annie, I know one thing if we can form a legislative committee in our state we could make a difference instead of waiting for our idiot politicians to lead the charge to take our country back from this invasion. W is going to send out information on that shortly so keep a watch for it.

[b]As far as I am concerned, they cant do that! We have been forced out of these closed door meetings for too long! I refuse to have illegal groups of people, that banged drums and shouted racial expletives, carried Mexican flags, and demanded full rights as citizens, get their way!
    We cant let that happen!
RIP Butterbean! We miss you and hope you are well in heaven.-- Your ALIPAC friends

Those idiots are going to force this path to citizenship for the illegals down our throat whether we like it or not. Are we helpless to stop them now or do we have to wait for elections to take place? Too late then!!!
