MYFOXNY.COM - New York Governor David Paterson has released a statement backtracking from comments he made on a radio interview on Friday morning.

Speaking on a show hosted by Daily News columnist Errol Louis, Paterson said the reason behind calls for him not to seek re-election next year is because he's black.

Paterson blamed the white-dominated media. Paterson complained there are not enough "black" media outlets to counteract the push, according to the Daily News .

Later in the day Paterson issued a statement saying, in part, "At no point did I claim that this media piling-on effect was due to race...what I did point out was that certain media outlets have engaged in coverage that exploits racial stereotypes."

Paterson's poll numbers show his support at around 30%.
