Angry, good to hear! So far, I know of no schools in the Austin area that will not air this speech. Unfortunately, Austin is the most liberal city in Texas!

Hey A**holes! Obama Wants to Talk to Your Kids
    Doug Giles

First off, I’m not calling you, my patriotic readers, aholios; that dishonor goes to Van Jones, Obama’s self-avowed communist Green Czar, Barack’s sweetheart, 9/11 Truther, and Muslim terrorist sympathizer. By the way, don’t you get the strange yet delightful feeling that VJ’s about to learn what it feels like to tumble underneath an Obama bus? I hope it’s a green one.

Yep, America, you may now add that derogatory label to the litany of other slurs the TOP LEADERS on the Left have been leveling at constituents who do not smoke their political crack. Have these radicals never heard of Dale Carnegie?

That said, as ill-fitting as that tag is for common sense Americans, if there has indeed been an adjustment in our American argot and “a**holeâ€

Ok, I am a die-hard conservative Republican and I totally agree with everyone in here 99.9% of the time but what exactly is in Obama's speech other than talking about the importance of staying in school and getting an education that is controversial? We know he is a scocialist among other things and I have no use for him as a president nor any use for the Democratic party in general but I would like to know more details about the speech he is going to deliver and what is causing the uproar. Someone please enlighten me because I guess I am in the dark over this.

Oldglory, I recommend that you read some of the posts, at least one of which contains the prepared text discussion to go on in the classroom before and after the discussion. The administration has backpedaled a bit and may have toned down the discussion but the intent was crystal clear to anyone who was paying attention. There are some good posts for your reading pleasure on this site.

Ok, thanks. I did find some discussion on this under the other forums in here and the actual speech that Obama is to deliver. On the surface the speech does seem rather innocent but I can see where some parts of it could raise some eyebrows. For example, Obama's statement that "we could be a more fair and freer nation". Opposed to what? A nation that isn't fair or free enough? Kind of reminded me of his wife's remark "For the first time in my life I am proud to be an American". Opposed to what? Being not proud of being an American all the years prior to Obama's electon?

Another thing that raised an eyebrow for me was one example of a success story of a Hispanic child that couldn't speak any English but acheived success later in life. If that child were here legally in this country why couldn't they speak English? It was kind of like he was pushing acceptance of illegal aliens in this country.

One more thing that was pointed out was Obama seemed to be pushing for children to work for national goals rather than individual goals. Now I am all for children to be taught to love this country and to be loyal to its ideals but I can see where this could have been miscontrued as going beyond nationalism. I guess when you read between the lines and knowing that Obama is a socialist and has been attached to shady people I can see why many people are concerned.

Yes as it is a first foray into violating US law requiring that the DOEd not dictate to any school system. The Obama administration is the camel's nose. Smack it everytime it pushes into your tent.

I live in Santa Clarita California a far northern suburb of Los Angeles. I have two children the oldest just started Kindergarden. The school that he goes to sent home a letter where the parents can opt out of Obamas speach. My wife will be delivering the letter and we will be opting out of viewing his speach. I will be calling the school tomorrow and politely be saying that my Kindergardener is way too young to be viewing anything that Obama has to say.

As A parent it is my firm belief that I shield my children from all things subversive. A kindergardener has no use for politics and Politicians like Obama should have no contact with Kindergardeners.

Our family and our related families will be doing the same. We have concerns that there might be a report to flag@DOEd or whatever, but don't want kids to miss class even though the failing schools seem to have time to waste aiding and abetting the violation of our law. We also understand that we might be reported to CPS as right wing nutjobs or maybe some kind of cult. We're retaining an attorney and will be vigilant of the treatment of our kids.

I just watched the Obama speech. I don't really see how it is detrimental as the speech itself promotes education and such.
