Action Alert! Stop the Pence Shamnesty Plan

A new immigration proposal by Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) has received considerable attention as a workable "compromise." Closer analysis reveals that it is another amnesty proposal that is, in some respects, worse than the Senate bill.

    - The Pence plan would allow an unlimited number of "guest workers" into the country. There is absolutely no limit. After three years the Department of Labor could, but would not be required to, set a limit.

    - It provides amnesty to illegal aliens by allowing them to use the new guest worker program and then immediately apply for a green card.

    - The main distinction of the Pence plan is that it turns the guest worker/amnesty processing over to private businesses. This appeals to conservatives who like the free-market approach, but provides even more incentives for fraud. Illegal aliens would need to self-deport to their home country where they would then be processed through these private centers and allowed to return.

Pence has met with Bush and Cheney about this plan, which means that it has real traction. We need to expose its details and nip it in the bud.

    ACTION NEEDED

Tell your Senators and Congressional Representative that this giant guest worker/amnesty proposal won't fly with the American people by entering your ZIP Code and clicking on "Go!" at this web page.

You may also want to follow with a phone call to Pence's Washington office at 202-225-3021.

This flyer has been circulating about the Pence sellout amnesty.

    CONSERVATIVES and ANTI-ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ACTIVISTS

Republican Congressman Pence from Indiana was once thought to be a conservative. And until President Bush was elected conservative meant preserving the principles our nation was founded on, the most important being the Rule of Law. Well as we now know from the Pence AMNESTY for illegl aliens, Congressman Pence is not a conservative at all. He is a fraud and a sellout and he supports the tryanny of treasonous President Bush.

If a once thought conservative like Congressman Pence can be a fraud and a sellout, then ANY republican congressman can also be a fraud and a sellout.

Our only course of action is to vote against every Republican on the ballot on election day 2006. The price of the "Pence sellout amnesty" must be the loss of the majority. You already know the districts in play and the Republicans are lsoing them all according to recent polls, but don't stop there. We must send the Republican party the message that there is no such thing as a safe seat. Vote against every Republican on the ballot on election day 2006.

    I received this email.

Our arrogant insular Senate had a rude awakening when it tried to force its massive immigration, amnesty bill, S. 2611, into-and through-a House/Senate conference committee. Key House Republican leaders served notice that giving amnesty to 10 million or so illegal aliens was no deal and no dice. Some commentators described the opposition in the House as "a rock wall." Unfortunately, the wall appears slightly cracked, in the person of Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN).
Congressman Pence has offered what he calls a compromise between the enforcement only bill passed by the House last December and the Senate bill. But a compromise it most definitely is not. The Pence plan-or more accurately the Pence ploy-is nothing more than the Senate monstrosity disguised with House rhetoric.

Admittedly, some think this outer appearance is attractive. The plan maintains that we would have to have a secure border before we consider other major changes in immigration policy. It also proclaims that amnesty is unacceptable and that illegal aliens will have to go back home. But take a peek under the rhetoric, and the ploy is apparent.

How would we determine when the border is secure? Well, according to the draft of the bill, this would happen when the Secretary of Homeland Security certifies that border security is "substantially completed." And just how substantial is that? Unfortunately, the bill doesn't define this phrase, which means that it can mean just about anything. President Bush's administration seems to think that his piddling deployment of National Guard troops on the border is something substantial-and with a little persuasion from the White House, the Secretary of Homeland Security might agree as well.

But at least all the illegal aliens would have to go home? Right? Well, not exactly. You see they're supposed to go home, but once Homeland Security certifies a "substantially" secure border, they can apply to come back in as "guest workers" if U.S. employers, including the ones hiring them now, promise to employ them. Pence says that they would only have to make a "quick trip" across the border and back.

And the offer extends far beyond our current crop of 12 million or so illegals. For three years, following passage, the Pence plan would open our doors to an unlimited number of guest workers from abroad, and thereafter allow the Department of Labor to determine numbers. In this respect, even the radical S. 2611 is moderate by comparison. It sets some limits, and does not surrender control of numbers to an unelected bureaucracy.

To tug at the heart strings of huddled-masses enthusiasts and free enterprisers, Pence would establish privately-run "Ellis Island Centers" north and south of the border to process guest workers. Private business, says the congressman, can do the job more efficiently than government. Critics ask if we want the importation of cheap labor to be "efficient," especially if it cuts corners to avoid proper screening for health and security.

Supposedly, all the guest workers who don't apply for citizenship would have to go back home after six years. But as Rep. Steve King (R-IA) observed, "If Pence is not willing to deport those here illegally now, why would he be willing to pull them out by their roots after an additional six years?"

Not surprisingly, the Bush administration has shown interest in the Pence plan, as a "compromise." But what the administration proposes to compromise is hard to figure. The plan is an amnesty, pure and simple, what the White House has wanted all along- with the added cream-topping of more foreign workers galore.

Apparently it matters not to President Bush-and the gang of 62 senators who passed S. 2611-that amnesty is a cause of, and not a cure for, illegal immigration. Since 1986 we have given amnesty to six million illegal aliens, and our reward for rewarding them has been an ever-swelling tide of more and more illegals.

The Pence ploy recalls the story of the Trojan Horse, a "gift" left by retreating Greek soldiers to their Trojan opponents. The trusting Trojans took the huge wooden horse into the gates of Troy, their city, and then bedded down for the night. With Troy sound asleep, the hollow horse opened, and Greek soldiers hiding inside streamed out. They quickly plundered and destroyed the city.
The Pence ploy supporters are advancing their scheme to the gates of our country. Inside are McCain, Kennedy, Specter and the rest of the Gang of 62. If the plot succeeds, they will do to America what the Greeks did to Troy.

    Oppose Pence Plan Take Action!

    Pence Plan Is Disguised Amnesty

Tell your House member to oppose the so-called compromise immigration proposal offered by Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN). This plan supposedly strikes a balance between the House "enforcement first" bill, H.R. 4437, and the Senate amnesty bill, S.2611.

In fact, it does nothing of the kind. The Pence plan is a disguised amnesty for illegal aliens. Also it would admit huge numbers of additional "guest workers," and thereby depress American wage levels.
