"San Bernardino, Ca" might as well be considered a sanctuary.
The City Councill denied the ordinance against landlords and emloyers. The more we complain about "Day laborers" the more day labor center go up. and we have churches aiding and abetting Illegals.
By the way, is there such thing as an "official" sanctuary city. I`d call them "unofficial" official.------------------------

Dear MKFarnam,
Per your question about official sanctuary cities--Yes there are "official" sanctuary cities. Some cities pass ordinances/resolutions in their capacities as public officials.
Some cities have "unwritten" sanctuary policies that have the same effect of official policies.
OJJPAC will list a city that has an official or unwritten policy that restricts local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration agents.
For example, the Mayor of Houston, TX denies having a "sanctuary policy" although the Congressional Research Service (according to news reports, 2004) concluded it does. More recently, the murder of a Huston police officer by an illegal alien has made it a big political issue there.
Hope this helps with your understanding.
Steve

What I understand is, in Laymen terms, these ordinances give them the right to go above the Law.

City Council's can pass whatever ordinaces they want. However, that doesn't mean they are legal or illegal.
The question of legality is the jurisdiction of the courts.
