17patri76,
I think all Americans should come to the table of brotherhood.
For every Confederate statue, I think there should be another statue on the opposite side of the Confederate.
I'll wear the "Stars and Bars" if you wear the "Pouncing Panther". I'm not a fan of the Black Panther Party For Self Defense, but for the sake of this post, I picked something just as offensive to you as the Confederate is to others.
I'll meet you halfway on anything you want except one thing:
I will not give you the right to tell me what is or isn't American. I've been an American every since I first drew in terrestrial air. I served in the USMC and I'm a decorated law enforcement officer. I've given the USA a lifetime of blood, sweat and tears. My definition of America belongs to me. After all, I've clearly earned it.
You are very well free to have your opinions too, and you'll get no guff from me.
We live in the same country, I think, but we are indeed worlds apart.

Dear Boomslang,
You have stated: "Freedom is the element that I focus on. It's very simple concept. If I am free to do a thing, I'm equally free not to do a thing. That includes standing or kneeling and even laying down, if a person chooses to, with regard to the National Anthem."
You seem to have some kind of undeveloped idea of an egalitarian society of freedom, some kind of idea that culture and heritage are irrelevant.
Consider this: The freedom that you say you value is a uniquely European concept. Starting with the ancient Greeks and evolving with irregular periods of progression and regression through perhaps 4000 years? The Orientals did not develop it. The Arabs, Africans the Mesoamericans and Native Americans did not develop it and, with a few dubious exceptions, do not have it to this day. Some rare splinter groups that may have had some nebulous freedom are irrelevant. We the descendents of Europeans made real freedom possible. The Revolutionary war was fought and won by people who overwhelmingly were of European heritage. Like wise the Constitution. Had the United States been founded and developed by any other cultural group, we would not be free, period. And that is why heritage and culture matters. If you value freedom, then you ought to protect and promote the culture that made it and will sustain it. The people are the culture because it is they who have made it. I guarantee you, if American cease to be European it will cease to be free. Look at Europe. As the native Europeans are replaced by alien Muslims, rape and violence are exploding. As Europe becomes less European it is becoming less free.Last edited by 17patri76; 03-21-2018 at 11:16 AM.

Just what is bringing this country down! We don't want to reward one child with first place because that will make all the other children feel worthless! Isn't that socialism?

Interesting dialogue we are having. I'd like to commend you for being civil and not resort to name calling. Good on you.
I'd like to make two points, if I may.
I never stated that culture and heritage are unimportant. I'd really like to see where I said that in my post. I believe culture and heritage hold a special place to those of that culture and heritage. The nuances and proclivities of a culture is like a spice on the human palette. I can appreciate Chinese culture and yet still love my own. On the flip side, I can appreciate my culture without hating another.
Now, you gave me a history of democracy and I can appreciate it but I don't understand the correlation. I enjoy many things invented by others. I love fireworks: China. I find the toilet very useful: China. In the digital age paper is still useful: China. Silk is very nice: China.
So, I owe China some kind of loyalty or I should want to "promote the culture that made it".
What if I don't like the Chinese sweat shops? What if I don't like Chinese human rights violations? What if I don't like China's foreign policy?
I still must give them loyalty because they make very fine silk textiles?
Continuing the argument, many nations practiced democracy before Solon reformed Greece in the 6th century BC.
The Egyptians, The Songhai Empire, Mossi and Kongo. India had a form of representative government. Babylonia also had a form of democracy.
Do I owe every country in the world my loyalty for everything I enjoy? If I do, then so do you.

You can celebrate your heritage. But demanding that this society also celebrate your heritage, no! If your heritage includes Sharia Law, go to where that is acceptable. Even within our borders, Native Americans are prohibited some of their traditions that may involve drugs. Animal sacrifice is not allowed as a "religious freedom".
The point of this thread is American schools celebrating traditions of another country. People can have a private party, but the public should not be forced to be involved or pay for it. Maybe that would be the end of Mardi Gras!

Mr. Boomslang,
Since the social justice warriors got their hands on our history books Westerners have been sold a denigrated and negative perception of their history. I am afraid you are trusting information from dubious sources as being accurate. Our information stream has been so polluted by 60 plus years of the left wing domination of academia that when honest people seek the truth they get a bunch of distorted, selectively chosen and often downright bogus information.
For example: everybody knows about the interment camps for Japanese Americans during WWII, proof positive of an inherent American racism – right? There is one little problem with it -- Germans and Italians were also incarcerated and denied basic civil right along with the Japanese. I have a friend who has a father in-law who experienced a little of it first hand. Nobody hears about it because it does not fit the leftists’ propaganda agenda. But the original records are there proving it is a fact. I have seen “history” books that flat out state that it was only the Japanese who were interred (read, rotten American racists) – wrong. The Japanese got reparations, the Germans and Italians never even got an apology. There is an ocean of stuff; this is just one of the worse example of perverted history.
Venezuela and even Iran technically are democratic nations, but nobody would seriously call them “free” in any meaningful way. I am sorry but you seem to keep mixing apples and oranges. You seem to use freedom and democracy interchangeably and present and past institutions interchangeably as if the difference between now and then is irrelevant – it is not. In any large group of people you will find deviations, aberrations and exceptions, especially if you draw from previous but vanished history. I am sorry but none of your rebuttal nullifies my essentially correct conclusion: if the United States were founded and developed by people from ANY non European culture it would not be a free nation as we understand the meaning of that term.Last edited by 17patri76; 03-24-2018 at 01:49 PM.

Nice to see we have come to an understanding of sorts.
I believe things that you do not and you believe things that I do not.
To me, this is the best sinecure to most problems in the world today.
I am completely sure of my path in life and I am not looking to be "converted".
I value all Americans equally and if that means I can celebrate Juneteenth and 4th of July, good for me.
If I can listen to jazz and enjoy St. Louis style ribs or sit by the lake and enjoy the Three Kings and Sinatra with family,
I'm there!
Now, I am really putting my money where my mouth is because this is my year to act.
I don't usually talk about my family, but I was shocked not too long ago.
My son told me that he wanted to go to Harvard. He's too young to know why he wants to go to Harvard,
but he knows it's a place that everyone speaks highly of.
I had the father-son talk and asked him what he wants to study.
He replied that he wants to fly and design airplanes. The boy's got goals!
I will never crush his dreams but I know that his childish views will grow with him.
He asked if I think he would be a good pilot. I told him that I would be proud to fly on his plane.
He laughed and asked, "Do they let black people into Harvard?"
I was crushed. I knew that the "old guard" had gotten to him.
I replied, "Son, they cannot keep you out of any place if you are good enough."
But I knew in the back of my mind that evil is present at the most inconvenient time.
So I'm starting a school for young black men to be leaders of their lives and take the reigns
of this country when my generation has to let go.
If I am not posting as much, it's because you have inspired me to jump out there and change the US for the better.
It's harder than you think. I will get accredited, but first I have to create a steering committee and oversight committee and
secure insurance and a million other things.
So, I hope to see you celebrating American Independence Day on June 19 this year as well as the 4th.

Jtdc,
I'm late informing you that we are not supposed to talk to each other.
I cannot read any of your post due to the
ignore setting.
Happy trails, friend, but insulting posts will not be part of my discussion.
It's only you and artist on my ignore list. I suggest you also put me on ignore so we can be doubly sure to not to read each other's posts.
Once again, happy trails!

Who said we are not to talk to each other? I was not informed.
It is your option to not read my posts. The problem is everybody else can. So you are the one who will be out of the loop.
You obviously can't stand to be challenged in the things you choose to post for everybody to see. I look for criticism from those who disagree. If everybody agreed with everything posted, the "Like" button would be all we need.
I suggest you also put me on ignore so we can be doubly sure to not to read each other's posts.
