Thread: Schwarzenegger says send prisoners back to Mexico

If California is not the poster child of the financial destruction caused by illegal immigration; I have no clue what is. And Arnold wants the US to pay for the cost of the prisons built in Mexico? WTH?

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested California could ease its crowded prison system by sending thousands of undocumented inmates to specially built jails in Mexico.

Speaking to reporters at the Sacramento Press Club, Schwarzenegger said California could ease its strained finances by a billion dollars if 20,000 illegal immigrants currently held in the state were housed across the border.
"I think that we can do so much better in the prison system alone if we can go and take, inmates for instance, the 20,000 inmates that are illegal immigrants that are here and get them to Mexico," Schwarzenegger said.

"Think about it -- if California gives Mexico the money. Not 'Hey, you take care of them, these are your citizens'. No. Not at all.
"We pay them to build the prison down in Mexico. And then we have those undocumented immigrants down there in prison. It would half the costs to build the prison and run the prison. We could save a billion dollars right there that could go into higher education."

Schwarzenegger's remarks come as California prepares for the latest in a long line of state budget crises.

Schwarzenegger declared a fiscal emergency earlier this month, warning severe cuts were necessary to stem a 19.9-billion-dollar deficit.

California has some of the most overcrowded prisons in the United States, with an estimated 170,000 inmates housed in facilities designed for 100,000 people, according to 2007 figures.

Schwarzenegger said he believed the financial burden of California's prisons could be eased if the private sector moved into the industry.

"I think that there is no reason why we should have just state employees and public prisons," Schwarzenegger said. "Why shouldn't we have private prisons and private prisons competing with public prisons?

"I don't want to go and get rid of public prisons, not at all. It's not an attack on their labor union even though they may take it as such.

Mexico wouldn't house and take care of these prisoners. They would take the money and let them go, so the crimminals could return back to America.

I wouldn't trust Mexico NOT to just let them go after giving them a map on how to get back into America!

California has already spent too much money because of "Undocumented" Aliens on all levels and California Tax Payers have had enough. And the Governor wants us to foot the bill for a facility in Mexico?! Mexico should foot the bill, but those people are not "Undocumented" there... they're merely Mexican citizens who send money back to Mexico that is taken from the U.S. Taxpayers. Does the Governor honestly think that Mexico would keep those people in jail? Hell no! Mexico would release them and send them right back to the U.S. to get more U.S. Taxpayer money!

Of course, the people in the jails are attached to various crimes, violent or not, that had been perpetrated against U.S. Citizens; but the fact is, if those people - many of them with criminal histories - had been kept out of the country to begin with through all the procedures of LEGAL IMMIGRATION, those crimes would not have happened. The jails would not have been so packed with expensive "Undocumented" Aliens.

Just on principle, does this mean that Mexican prisons are not good enough for their citizens, so we have to build them our way? Is this not just mollycoddling criminals?
My late father came up with a great idea after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the closing of the gulags. The US pays Russia $5,000 each to house our prisoners in their now empty jails (to help with their economic chaos) and he figured it would be about a quarter of the cost of each prisoner in our system, where they need cable TV, and a continually updated law library. I thought it was brilliant as far as budget concerns.

Schwarzenegger will probably get sued by the ACLU for referring to them all as "Mexicans."

We have given Mexico so much money in the past couple of years. It makes me sick. I'd rather spend it in Haiti. Get rid of the corrupt government and the Haitians are more deserving. Everything in Mexico is corrupt! They are up our butts waiting for the undocumented President to give the word that America, Canada, aand Mexico can be one happy country!

I think if Obama is more comfortable living in 3rd world countries why doesn't he move BACK to one, and take the FAM-DAMNLY TOO.! Maybe they would be impressed with the way he reads, because WE AREN'T!

I say paratroop their butts right into the middle of mexico city... have a true American police force at the borders and if the ms13 wants to return, along with the terrorists they are smuggling over with them; then let our military use whatever force necessary to protect the citizens of the USA.

Stop the for profit, money making wars for the elitests in countrys like Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan... The war is here, now in the USA; and nobody in our government gives one damn whether we live or die tomorrow.
