The Senate is currently voting on an amendment to Bar funding to the program to allow Mexican trucks on U.S. roads Its attached to S 1789 Transportation/housing bill.
The vote was I 78 Nay 24 Barring funding was passed.
Still debating mexican trucking in the U.S.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!

What would the funding have been for?! I don't want to assume -barring the funding is good right?
Are they debating whether to stop the program? Can they over ride the president's wishes? HOPE so.....

Ok- the Dorgan amendment passed. But what good is it if they voted against Mexican trucks getting inspected every 3 months? Am I misunderstanding something here? I hope so.

I am watching it too, and if I understand all that I’m hearing?
1) They voted against funding the program that supports Mexican trunks. (It passed, there will be no funding)
2) Now they are voting on an amendment to that bill that would require Mexican trucks to meet USA high standards, and get safely inspections every 3 months.
(I missed the final vote count on this part)
3) Now they are voting if they should table “killâ€<div>“There is no longer any Left or Right, there is only Tyranny or Liberty ”</div>

they didn't kill the Amendment. The one they tabled was Coburn's amendment to clean the earmarks out of the main bill.
Here's how I understand all this. Dorgan's amendment passed, denying funding to the Mexican truck deal. The Cornyn amendment would be moot anyway, if there are no trucks to inspect and no money to do it with anyway.RIP TinybobIdaho -- May God smile upon you in his domain forevermore.

Sorry, I haven't been around on the board in the last few hours (other things to take care of..).
MadInChicago: You put your finger on the crux of the problem really - see, that the DOT basically took it on themselves to 'implement the provisions of NAFTA' - rather independently from the input of Congress (but, of course, towing the Boosh administration's standard pro-corporate agenda).
So, it was never really 'enacted' or 'voted in' - it was a small part of a much larger NAFTA treaty which had promised Mexican carrier access to operate in the US. But, of course, US trucks don't yet have the same level of permissions to operate in Mexico too.
Actually, I'm a bit surprised that Dorgan's Amendment passed - but, if so, that is great news. While it doesn't nix the program altogether, at least it puts in place the mechanisms to let it die... for the next 12 months or so. After that? Well, hopefully we can stall the whole thing into the next administration...
Anybody have the breakdown of the vote yet? We need to know who our friends and non-friends are..Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
