Sensenbrenner Statement on Immigration Reform Legislation

WASHINGTON, Dec. 5 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (R-Wis.) issued the following statement today regarding immigration reform legislation:

"Tomorrow, I expect to introduce legislation to address some of the problems of our immigration system. Quite clearly, this system is broken and must be fixed. This proposal will focus on preventing illegal immigration by bolstering our border security efforts and beginning a serious interior immigration enforcement effort. This legislation will demand that people follow the law and be held accountable for their actions - whether it's an employer hiring illegal workers, a smuggler trafficking in human beings in a 21st century version of slavery, or a person who ignores the law and enters this country illegally. All will be held accountable.

"While I support establishing a guest worker program, my legislation will not include a guest worker program. I believe it is wise to move cautiously on any guest worker proposal. Currently, we do not have a clear consensus on what a guest worker program should look like. In addition, while significant progress is being made, providing legal immigrants with the timely, efficient, and professional treatment that they deserve remains unfinished business. Serious issues need to be answered, such as how a new guest worker program will impact Citizenship and Immigration Services. Lawmakers must avoid trying to address more than can be handled so that the entire legislative effort does not fall under its own weight.

"I look forward to a spirited and passionate debate in the coming weeks and months on how best to prevent illegal immigration in a way that holds people accountable and embodies this nation's proud tradition of welcoming legal immigrants."

How can you be for something and against it at the same time?

I think Congressman Sensenbrenner needs to have a spirited debate with himself before he introduces anything.

Sounds to me like he is for enforcement first and then take a look at a guest worker plan at a later time.

My question is why do you need legislation to enforce existing laws??

I don't know, Legal. He MIGHT be on the RIGHT TRACK. I mean, he's going to have to ACT LIKE he is for a guestworker program but his is the ONLY ONE so far that is being proposed that doesn't have a guestworker program, isn't it??? Maybe we need for him to get his passed first and then we can marshal the forces to fight the guestworker program AFTER we get something done about interior enforcement and the border???? If he says he's AGAINST a guestworker program, nobody will even take his bill seriously but if he 'tends like ( as I would tell my kids!) he's gonna have one LATER, maybe they will buy in! Maybe this is wishful thinking???

Sensenbrenner--Listen Up--you do not need a "spirited and passionate debate on how best to prevent illegal immigration". All that is needed is to enforce US Immigration Law...by placing troops on our borders immediately; then building a barrier security fence; prosecuting and jailing every illegal employer; deporting illegal aliens. All the laws needed to do this already exist.

Sensebrenner--Listen Up--Americans do not have a "proud tradition of welcoming legal immigrants". Never have. Never will. THAT is a MYTH. Every group that came here legally had to fight and scrap to find their place and most moved west to get away from the Unwelcoming Ones on the East Coast. America is not a "welcoming society".

You are a Globalist. Just a sneaky one. How do I know? You used the words "guest worker program" and "welcoming".

WE are on to you people. WE're watching your every moves. You can't believe one thing and intend to something, then come to a press conference and try to convince US, you are on our side.

NO ONE harping about a Guest Worker Program of any kind ever is on OUR SIDE. You are just another "variation" of the same plan to end our nation. WE ARE NOT WELCOMING.

All I Want For Christmas Is My Country Back, My Country Back, My Country Back!!

GET IT??? NO GUEST WORKER PROGRAM. NO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION DEBATE. NO IMMIGRATION REFORM DEBATE. Enforce our laws as they were in effect on January 1, 2004--or get out of Washington, because you and all like you are just Globalist Traitors wearing a different color suit singing a different verse of "END OUR NATION".

Judy--you don't think the promise of LATER debate on a guestworker program could just be a smokescreen used to get THIS bill THROUGH??? That was MY hope. BUT, I've been fooled before and I will be fooled again by this bunch of traitors.

No, I do not. He will not get his bill through. He knows that already. He's just trying to look like a Jim Gilchrist to appease his people back home who I'm sure are ready to throw him out on his ear if he doesn't LOOK like he's doing something AMERICAN.
