Thread: Should Illegal Aliens Receive Free Emergency Care?

During a recent discussion about health care costs and reforms, President Obama indicated that he supports continuation of current practices whereby free medical care is provided to illegal aliens in emergency situations. The president justified his position as a "Basic Standard of Decency."

Most Americans would likely agree when it comes to providing medical services needed to prevent death or severe disablement. Denying life-sustaining medical care based on immigration status would be wrong.

However, the real controversy ensues once the illegal alien is no longer in a life-threatening situation and is to be released.

Most liberals would argue that the patient should be released unconditionally without regard to the question of immigration status. As for that $100,000 medical bill, just send it to the U.S. Treasury and let the American taxpayer bite the bullet.

Thinking conservatives would disagree most vehemently.

Indeed, rather than freeing the invader to the general population, the appropriate action should be to contact ICE the moment the illegal alien is admitted for care, and again when treatment has concluded.

ICE officials should arrest released illegal aliens, begin immediate deportation proceedings, and bill the government of Mexico for medical services rendered.

A basic principle of common sense is at issue here, which is:

No illegal alien should be knowingly allowed to receive public services paid for by tax payers. Rather, medical professionals and others involved, must contact INS authorities immediately.

After all, that is what immigration laws and borders are all about!

Even more crucial is the manner by which pregnant women in America illegally are handled. Currently, this nation wastes scores of millions of dollars (or more) each year caring for third-world aliens who come for the express purpose of delivering a child on U.S. soil, thereby making the child a citizen.

Such children are called "anchor babies," for obvious reasons. Those who plot and scheme to produce such children are guilty of extortion, fraud, and any number of other serious crimes which preclude mercy.

A reasonable policy for dealing with pregnant illegal aliens would be:

* Immediately escort the mother in labor across the border so that the child is officially born in Mexico (or other nation of origin), or

* If birth does take place on U.S. soil, the child should be seized and the parents immediately deported. INS should then work with Mexico (or other nation) to return the new bundle of illegal joy back to his or her corrupt parents down in the mother land.

Yes these are examples of tough love.

However, it is time for liberal politicians like Barack Obama to implement a "Basic Standard of Decency" on behalf of American citizens-- for a change!

My sentiments exactly. Yet we hear so little about the cost of illegals and their extensive ER treatment like kidney dialysis, organ transplants and cancer care. We need to move this issue front and center.

I agree, also. No human being should be denied emergency care if a situation is life-threatening or requires restorative procedures such as would be needed in cases of accidental dismemberment or seizures.

The Socialized Medicine activities in Europe operate that way by treating anyone, including Americans, in the event of an emergency situation; but guess what? Americans are usually billed for that service as soon as they return home.

Socialized medicine has many, many drawbacks which are now being brought to light by Europeans themselves, in an attempt to warn us not to fall prey to the same system.

When it comes to Illegal Migrants, they should only be given emergency medical aid if needed, but they should not go on a permanent health, treatment or disability plan that would drain the funding from medical facilities while U.S. Taxpayers are footing the bill.

Once an illegal alien is out of a life-threatening emergency, the illegal alien and all his/her illegal alien family members need to be deported along with all minor children.

NO!!! They should not receive 'free' care emergency or any other free sevices.
Save their life and don't release them until the bill is paid. If they claim poverty send them to debtors prison ala 'Sheriff Joe'

Once the bill is paid - Then deport them.

As for the anchor momies- there should be a ward designating the birth as taking place in a forign consolate and the child is listed under the same nationality as the mother. Have her pay the bill(she can probably get a job turning tricks for ACORN) and deport her and anchor spawn.

First ensure that it is truly an emergency (broken bone, severe trauma, life threatening illness, etc.) If it is not, refer them to the nearest walk-in clinic. If it is a true emergency, them provide the emergency care. Then determine whether or not they are employed. If employed, determine who the employer is and bill the employer. Make this federal law. This will make the cheap labor a lot less cheap, and will help discourage employers from hiring illegal aliens, and will encourage them to use e-verify. If the illegal alien is not employed, then determine the country of origin and bill it. This could be done in a variety of ways such as taxes on remittances, tariffs on imports, deductions from foreign aid, etc. The point would be to encourage nations to do their part to discourage illegal emigration to us.

Now if I saw one hurt badly I'd help, but would also call police on them or insist on deportation .

Stabilize and deport!

Too Funny ... I agree with all of you ... I thought I was the only one ... As a former Health Care Professional and Combat Medic ... Triage works best ... Stabilize ... Then Deport ... I also feel that all gains that have been acquired by these people be confiscated and sold to pay for their, " MEDICAL EMERGENCY " ... And all other Social Programs, " THEY " have been given or scammed from the system ... ( ie ) Homes ... Cars ... Belongings ... Past Welfare ... Food Stamps ...etc ... I have lost all compassion for those who break the laws that I served to protect and have to on a daily basis.
