    "Open Invitation" to the World!

    "Open Invitation" to the World?

This morning I was watching C-Span and there were two reporters on the show, one from Guatemala and one from England. They were asked how Americans were viewed by the rest of the world. Well I won't get into that, but the issue of illegal immigration came up...A man called in and asked the reporter from Guatemala how his country would feel if the United States sent millions of Americans to his country and expected the Guatemalan people to pay for their education, health care etc.

The answer the reporter gave was, we are a small country and do not have the wealth that the United States has but we are a very diverse country, besides ( and here is what got me ) the United States is "inviting" these people to come to their country because they need workers.

Now I have heard this phrase on several occasions in the newspapers, MSM, politicians and open border lobbyists, Mexican officials such as Calderon, Fox etc., that we are asking these people to come here.

Now my question is ( since I must be missing something) has anyone heard the President, Vice President, Secretary of State or any other part of this government, or "we the People" come out on any news station, newspapers, or has anyone seen any want adds I may have missed, advertising for everyone to " come on into the United States" by any means possible, we invite one and all and extend an open invitation to the world ?

Now I know I can be slow at times, but if I saw a country building a fence, putting armed guards on its borders, it would sure send a message to me....but we must be missing something here that the rest of the world has gotten and we fail to see.

Either way I am sick of hearing the United States has an "open invitation " or that we have invited these people to come here and over populate our country,

So what have you heard? Have you sent these people an invitation ? or have you heard this announced in the Media by any public officials ? Did I miss this announcement? When and where did this announcement occur?

Confused and in the dark in Idaho ...SOSAD

I never heard of an invitation....or a NEED for more people.....I have heard we must want them or we wouldn't have let them get away with this for this long.

I don't doubt somebody gave them that message since it's a common statement.....just wasn't from us.

You will only hear that message from illegal aliens already here, to their relatives and friends back home.

I think they believe the invitation is implied since we have an apathetic government who refuses to secure our borders, deport these invaders, and extends benefits to these people like they are guests of honor. We allow our corporations to hire these illegals and send billions of dollars back to their countries of orgin through remittances, while not punishing those same employers for violating the law.

If that's not an open invitation, then I do not know what is.

It would be akin to a burglar who breaks into your home and you discover he is there. Instead of calling the police and having him arrested, you ask him if he is hungry and would like a sandwich, which of course he takes you up on the offer and has that sandwich. Next, he says he is tired and offer him a bed to sleep in. The next moring he gets breakfast and a hot shower. You come home from work and discover he is still there, but he has also moved his wife and child into the house. You feed and accomodate them as well.

Now is that guy still a burglar or has he now beome an invited house guest? You expressly didn't ask him to come, but your inaction to remove him sure would create the impression in the minds of a great many people that he is wanted there.

I think this the reason these people get the impression they are wanted, and our government has done nothing to refute that belief.

They probably believe that businesses are inviting them. This is one of the things that really pisses me off about the whole immigration mess. WE DIDN'T INVITE THEM HERE AND YET WE GET TO DEAL WITH THE CONSEQUENCES.

No one asked me if it was ok. As far as I know, they didn't ask any other Americans. This is our country. We pay for it through our taxes and hard work. Therefore, we have a say in who we let into this country. We do not want people who have so little respect for the laws of our country.

    SOSAD, over in this thread:
    http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-108950.html

Look for an article posted down in the thread titled as below:

    "Labor Shortages: Myth and Reality"
With higher pay, there are plenty of U.S. workers to fill jobs, some economists say
    by Moira Herbst

In it, they really dig right into the content of your question - Does the US really need "workers"?

Both economists Rosenberg (whom is unfamiliar to me) and Bernstein (whom I have heard many of his interviews, articles, etc) both argue that point intensively. Think of basic principles of economics -

If there really was such a shortage, then the wage levels offered would almost automatically increase as a result. However, the economists point out in the article that wage rates for nearly every profession in the country over the last 6-7 has remained flat, or had only modest increases. At the same time, there are *some* types of jobs that go unfilled rather regularly. As they say outright, is - there is a shortage of workers that are willing to do rather low-level jobs very cheaply. That is the one genuine shortage of labor in the country. Almost any job can be made to attract workers by simply increasing the wage rate/benefits/etc.

What is really going on is a growth from industries that have exploited cheap foreign in low-level jobs, to many other types of jobs. Other industries have jumped head-first into the 'why hire an [expensive] American when you can just ...<import slaves>' idiom.

Now, having said all the above, recall that the inequity in income distribution (or, if you're a more progressive on the fiscal/economic side of things, you might say - unequal distribution in wealth)... is as great in the US as it once was over 100 years ago.

In another thread, someone posted that 10% of Mexicans own 90% of the wealth. Well, here's the sorry eye-opening reality: we should be so lucky to enjoy even that level of imbalance (the most recent stats. the US are even more skewed - more like 2%-5% to the lower 90%). The reason that details like this go unnoticed for the most part, is that our baseline 'poverty' level is much higher and we have a vast history of prosperity in recent times.

While I am all for capitalism, I am a strong critic when illegal methods are used to game and exploit the system. Is 'winning at any cost' the ultimate goal in today's marketplace, or should 'winning' be confined to those who play fair and obey the rules - and, as much as budgets and schedules allow - allow better treatment beyond legal slave conditions.(?) There are corporate PoS that are making huge golden parachute sums of $$$, by eliminating jobs/shutting down plants/moving jobs offshore etc. Should they be able to vote themselves multimillion $$$ bonuses while not just keeping the lower workers under him/her from increased wages/salaries, but eliminating jobs? I don't think so. 'What is good for the goose should be good for the gander'. Let the corporate CEOs suffer equally as much as the workers involved.

Sooner or later, that gross imbalance will have serious implications for the well being of the country and society at large. IMHO, it is unsustainable in the long-term.

Well Bill Gates spoke before congress for more visas.

Illegal immigrants are not guests in this county, they are criminal trespassers.

Great comments everyone and great article "Phred" and so true.

So in other words we have not "openly" or "outright" invited anyone, as they like to make it sound, except visa and green card holders.

Just saying we have jobs in America does not give just anyone the right to cross our borders and invade our country, as this man and many others make it sound.

They act like because the jobs are here they have a right to them regardless if it is hurting American workers....

My advise to these people is until you get an invitation in the mail you are not invited, you are considered illegal, you are commiting an illegal act by coming with out your invitation.......is the rest of the world and all of those special interest groups out there getting this!!!

Workers needed on any Job, in any state in the United States of America does not give you the right to come here with out your invitation.

It is not your country !! and entrance is by invitation only!!

These people invade our country steal whatever they can because we don't stop them. Its really that simple.
Bush and the CFR want the country destroyed and thats whats happening. They allow it to happen. They want it to happen and we don't have a say in the situation. We can scream all we want and stamp our feet and protest but it will happen.
We can only try to postpone the inevitable.
We will fight to the end but our best hope is to have a president who will do whats right for this country and the American people and not for the CFR.
