Today i recieved the leter from the secretary of the va

A couple weeks ago or was it a few?? I dont remember but one of our goverment officials went home and took with him information of veterans who had or have been inlisted, dicharged, dissabled .
The laptop consiquently was stolen and along with it the information .
The government wants me to believe that the person who stole it wouldnt want the information in it . but i beg to differ . All the illegals need to get into this country is a ss number .

So iwould imagine the information would be sold to the person of the highest bidder.
what a secure nation we live in when we are required to have these NUMBERS for identifaction purposes and then some idiot worker has access to all this information "made portable even" to take home and then torn from his possesion and sent into the underworld.
I am not an idiot nor are the general populas.
We (the veterans) have now been advised to watch our monitary transactions, credit reports, bank accounts. because of a lack of security and ease of this information world.
But that information this individual has can destroy the lives of millions
who have fought ,lost limbs and minds for the sake of this country. you would think that they would be just a little more not so portable with MY information or my fellow servicemens.
But god forbid that all this info gets into the hands of some one south of the border !!!!!!
the bad thing is that this has been broadcast all over the world . Betcha the crinminals are searching for that puter right now........ [b]and i thank you Media for not protecting the galliant providers of your liberties and for sharing with the world that our disabled servicemens information is now out there just waiting to be used and abused by the criminals .
your voice has been heard now i hope you reap the benefits.[/
    b]

I got the letter also. In the FAQ sheet that was sent with the letter a disturbing fact was reported. It states that in some cases the veterns spouses information was lost. I dont remember the media saying anything about the spouses info being stolen. So who knows how many I.D. were lost. surly enough for a few million illegals. I think we are living at the mercy of a dictator. Where is the America of the brave and free? I think it shifted to the brown and diseased roaches. Not enough good ole folk willing to save our home. Damn I get so upset.

I would like to know why this infomation was on a Laptop to begin with or am i missing something here? This guy who took this info home needs to be thrown in jail at the very least.

I got a letter from the VA also. I put a fraud alert with the credit bureaus and paid an additional fee of $65.00 for additional monitoring service of my account. In my opinion, this is $65.00 that should be paid by the U.S. Government. Any one with a suggestion on how to file a claim for this, I would like to hear from you.

I have just about reached the point of total disrepect for our government.
It seems that our government now fails us time after time after time!!

My husband got his letter yesterday, although I knew it was coming anyway.

I think that the government should be financially responsible for any costs veterans incur due to their incompetence and should also be held responsible for any of the consequences that occur with identity theft that veterans will have to deal with because of the failure to secure the information.

Am I Just Being Paranoid About This?

Maybe I'm being a little paranoid but there have been several reports in the news recently of people's personal information ending up stolen or missing. I can't recall what groups of people, but it seems to be more than just a coincidence to me. Has anyone else noticed this too?

My dad, veteran, died in 1994....so would my mom's I.D. be at risk? Anyone have any idea?

The fact that this should NEVER have happened (Im not exactly buying the official version) aside, I would like to know what, exactly, the US Social Security Administration is doing to keep tabs on these "at risk" SS numbers? Does it say anything about THAT in the letter?

The reason I am so concerned is that I am afraid the SSA is just as incompetent as the Veterans Affairs nitwits that allowed this catasrophic loss of personal information. For instance, when an illegal alien uses a stolen SS number to gain employment, the SSA will eventually catch it and notify the employer, but it does NOT notify the person whose number is being fraudulantly used! The only chance of a person finding out is if the perp is working under both their name AND their SS number. In that case, if taxes are owed, notification that you are a victim of ID fraud comes in the form of a bill from the IRS!

Furthermore, the SSA has so far refused to share this information with DHS/ICE, sighting privacy laws as the reason. And whose freaking privacy would that be, eh? Certainly not the person whose number is being fraudulantly used, after all, their privacy has ALREADY been breeched. So who does that leave? Yep, THE PERP USING THE STOLEN NUMBER AND THE PERP BUSINESS THAT HIRED HIM/HER!

If we can't trust the SSA to even minimally protect the SS numbers of civilians, how can we possibly trust them to vigilantly monitor and protect the compromised SS numbers of those who bravely chose to serve and protect this Country?

Did she ever receive any benefits? If she did not then she is probably OK.
