Trump Asked About Reuniting Migrant Families: The Solution Is 'Don't Come to Our Country Illegally'

President Trump responded emphatically Tuesday to reports that the administration will miss a court-imposed deadline to reunite migrant children with their parents.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House before departing to Brussels for the NATO summit, Trump said the problem could be solved if people stopped entering the U.S. illegally.

"That's the solution," Trump said. "Don't come to our country illegally. Come like other people do. Come legally."

U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw ruled on June 26 that the separated migrant families with children under the age of five must be reunited by Tuesday.

Sabraw said Monday that he was "very encouraged" by the Trump administration's "real progress" in reuniting the families.

“I’m saying this, very simply. We have laws. We have borders," Trump said on Tuesday. "Don’t come to our country illegally. It’s not a good thing.”

He condemned Democrats fighting against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), calling their fight "a disgrace."

"[ICE agents] go into harm's way. There is nobody under greater danger that the people from ICE. ... We want to support ICE, not what the Democrats are doing," Trump said.

Trump said Democrats want open borders and are soft on stopping crime.

"Remember this: Without borders, you do not have a country," Trump concluded.
