Hippychick, I think we made a difference, even though alot of people don't post, they do their calls and e-mails, we had 417 people view the thread, Pretty good for the short notice.

WELL, NO NEWS YET, BUT ONE GOOD THING THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED IS THAT OUR GOVERNOR O'MALLEY NOW SAYS HE SUPPORTS THE BILL.....HE HAS BEEN A VERY PRO-ILLEGAL ALIEN CRUSADER IN THE PAST, BUT NOW SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING HAS MADE HIM CHANGE HIS MIND.....THIS IS DEFINITELY A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!!!

Bill would require legal status to obtain Md. driver's license

Gov. Martin O'Malley says he supports legislation requiring people to demonstrate they are in the country legally before receiving a driver's license.

O'Malley pointed out today that Maryland is the only state on this side of the Rocky Mountains that does not currently require a person to have legal status to obtain a state driver's license.

Maryland is one of four states where undocumented immigrants can get a driver's license.

O'Malley says he is very aware that lawful presence is something that every state is going to be required to have, and this is the last legislative session for lawmakers to approve a measure to achieve required benchmarks.

Lawmakers are holding hearings on the legislation this afternoon.
