My daughter works as a dispatcher for a police department which does not require you to speak Spanish. She gets calls from people speaking Spanish only all the time. They will start in Spanish and she will tell them to speak English. Then tell her off in English and proceed to speak in Spanish. When she has Miami Dade County translate for her the Spanish translators give her a hard time because the department has no Spanish speaking dispatchers. This department hires on your qualifications to do the job and on one police website they actually accuse the department of being racist because they don't look at ethnicity and race.

They are going to wonder about someone with blue eyes and light hair, though.
Not necessarily. Our kids are (nationality, not citizenship) Mexican/Irish and while 2 have brown eyes/hair, they are all pretty fair skinned, one tans but a golden color, not dark, the other 2 are light, and #3 has baby blue eyes and light hair. Their Dad isn't dark either, and he's Mexican (4th generation, all legal).

    Umm...

It's been a while since I've made a post but here goes...

Check Hispanic, then ask someone to define it. Hispanic is a culture not a race so good luck, lol...

I am American and used to be proud of it, but it's gettin' a little weirder everyday...

Wouldn't that be considered "racial profiling"? They can't have it both ways.

No. I never get calls from these online fillout forms. My impression is that HR people don't make it a priority to review them when they get filled out. Last night I filled out another and it didn't work because of a computer problem. I was able to get someone close to the president on the phone and he said that it was better to email a resume anyway. I am getting responses from direct email to company employees and follow up phone call. Unfortunately I am noticing that everything seems to be slowing down because of the election and everything going wrong with the economy. As things get tougher I will have to make more cold calls as well as offers to lower my salary from what I made before.

Hmmm, I wonder if there was any place on there that asked if you could legally work in the U.S.

I know that there definitely are applications which ask if you are legally allowed to work in the U.S. All law enforcement agencies ask even if you are applying for a civilian position. An example is the Broward County Sheriff's Office asks: U.S. Citizen and then you check either By Birth or Naturalized. Then they have if not a citizen are you legally authorized to work in the U.S. and you check off either yes or no. The Hollywood Police Department has the something similar but the city does not. I will make it a point to bring it to their attention as all they ask for is a driver's license.

Good point, G-Man. I would write it as follows:
Are you legally allowed to work in the United States? Prove it.
