The best thing to do is to know where a candidate stands before you vote. I am neither a republican or democrat. MW, it depends on where you vote. Here in Texas, I can vote for Cornyn(R) who wants amnesty, and Hutchison(R) who pretends she is tough on immigration but wants amnesty. Who do I have to vote for that is republican? It's time to stop supporting both parties.

    Third party.
And please, don't give any crap or blah blah about how it is suicide or they can never win. If we keep that atittude then it will be so. The internal revolution will happen when more and more start voting third party and not for the lessor of the two evils. (It NEVER works in the long run!) It may take a few election cycles, but it can happen if we think outside the box for once!

Support individual candidates. If there are two slugs in your state make sure somebody that "gets it" meets them on the House or Senate floor. Send money to a person you like anywhere else.

    3rd Party Candidates wrong label

Anyone who runs outside Democratic or Republican label is portrayed as a "kook" - by those two parties - the state offices are pre-ordained by gerrymandered districts carved out by back room deals between both parties. (trust me, I witnessed them first hand- see my "Testimony" post)

IMHO, step 1 is to demand and get campaign disclosures transparent. My God, you're telling me porn sites and ebay, paypal technology cannot be applied to the Secretary of State's website???? Tony Miller, Chief of that section, whether he honestly believes it or is lying - says the "obfuscation" of PAC and Committee money to candidates cannot be tied. Come on - when I ran for office back in 2000, you could see every check over $100 to my campaign without being a SQL programmer - now, it's impossible.

Second step - District boundaries - forget the census as a basis to draw district lines. - how about just using Thomas Brothers grids?

Third - Transparency on the Internet of every legislative issue and voting record.

Fourth - no need for candidates to declare a party - no primary to determine who in the party runs - current system immediately kills the chance of independents - you're either a Republican or Democrat.

Fifth - No more carpet bagging - Termed out officials just jump to some office regardless of whether they've really lived in that community or not.

Jane Harman Congresswoman from South Bay - was a Washington DC lawyer, with no ties to California. When Democrats wanted that district seat, the massively funded her campaign against a true incumbent resident of many years - she won by 1% and immediatley, the district was gerrymandered into safe voting precincts.

Sorry for long post. But this is now my catharsis - I'll shut up if stuff I'm posting is irrelevant.

BINGO!!! It's just too bad that we don't have third party candidates for local elections.
