I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I seem to recall hearing that the fence the Israelies installed between Israel and palestinian land has drastically cut the amount of suicide bombings of Israel.

What fence? Where? Anyone see a fence? Anyone really think there will be a fence on the border? I hate to be the Grinch who stole the fence, but, I will believe it when I see it! Our congressional leaders and our new Democrat controlled house and senate are already tearing down the idea building any fences on the border, unless that said fence is a virtual fence! That is what Chertoff wants, myself I would much rather have a virtual Michael Chertoff as for homeland security, we know for sure that is a virtual piece of garbage, that only appears to be working in the mind of our President. Really and truely does anyone feel any safer then they did before 911? All I have learned since then only makes me aware of how totally defenseless we really are.
Build the dam fence post haste!

It is foolish to think that "financing" would go hand in hand with "approving" a fence (?) Crazy!

The fence works where ever it's put up. But as put in a post above, it still hasn't been financed yet. And I really don't expect it to. The only reason it was approved to be built in the first place was election year bait for republican voters who where planning to stay home in droves during the last election. Well, so we got it approved to be built just before this last election so maybe before the next election in 08 we will get it financed. That is unless Bush gets his amnesty program through. Then the fence becomes irrelevant.

    the fence

The fence is good. I think they will keep coming. They will keep coming no matter what you do at the border. We need to go after the family members that are sending the money to have them come here illegally. This is how it is funded and how they get the border patrols to look the other way. It funds the network of people that provide the services to the illegals along the way. No plan will work unless this issue is considered. A person that sends money back home for this purpose should be convicted and sent to jail. Our governement has to do a better job to manage the flow of people into this country. Go after the people who fund the whole thing.

You're partially right, Hawkeye. Not all the funds for the fence have been appropriated, but part of it has. The current appropriation of $1.18 billion will supposedly fund about 90 miles of fence. I believe the total estimated funding for the fence is somewhere around $7 billion.

    This is an old article.

The federal government has tried for two decades now to curb illegal immigration, with spending and border-patrol personnel up dramatically since the late 1980s
That`s BS. they have`nt been trying to do jack!

Now, No one will know how good the fence works until it`s up.

Not so, the amnesty is`nt ment for Mexico. it`s the ones that are here.
Without a border fence and the existing laws enforced, we`re just repeating history.
The Minutemen are already building a fence down there, and to be honest, I believe that`s the only way we`re going to get one up. By the people.

    I`ve mentioned before
Anyone whose job involves some type of repair knows that , in order to repair something, you need to fix the cause of the problem first, which in turn eliminates the problem. Afterwards you may have some dirty work to clean up. But that comes with the job.

Unless there is another attack or a huge public outcry there probsably will be no fence. Maybe a virtual fence like senator Cornyn suggests which is really virtually nothing.

You're right, but actually you don't have to have a job like that, it's even more basic. Anyone with an ounce of common sense can figure it out.

The tub analogy: If your tub is overflowing, which do you do first, turn off the water or start mopping up the floor?
