    wonderful article, thanks for posting.

so then am i to assume it is ok to simply answer the question of how many people in the household?

but will i still get a $100 fine for each question not answered?

Michele Bachmann will refuse to answer census questions
    June 19, 2009 – 11:10 am by William Wallace

The honorable representative Michele Bachmann has publicly stated that she will refuse to answer most questions on the upcoming 2010 census.(Dinan 2009)

Michelle Bachmann is reported to have stated:

I know for my family the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home. We won’t be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn’t require any information beyond that

According to the Washington Times, U.S. Census Bureau spokesperson Shelly Lowe indicated that, as paraphrased by a possibly sloppy Washington Times journalist, that “…a portion of the U.S. legal code that says anyone over 18 years of age who refuses to answer ‘any of the questions’ on the census can be fined up to $5,000.â€

Nope, they can't do a damned thing to anyone refusing to answer questions.

Here is some more info on that case:

    Supreme Court appeal

Checking both the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 dockets, it does not look like the Supreme's took the case (surprise surprise)

Therefore I might hesitate to use this case, which sounds like from the appeal these brave people lost, as precedent not to answer the questions.
