Thread: IFIRE INFORMATION FROM CHEREE

I've compiled all the recent newspaper and TV stories I could find on the America First: Summit on National Security. I've included some pre-Summit stories and letters to the editor. I didn't see anything on the 10 p.m. news but found that several of the networks ran the exact same AP story on their websites. The most interesting coverage is in HOY and it looks like they plan to run more stories next week. The translations from Spanish to English are pretty rough, though.

I stopped to thank 2 of the policemen on my way out. The officers were pretty upset about a woman from our side who flipped off the demonstrators and yelled at them. They told me there were only 4 officers at the scene when this happened and they felt like things could easily have escalated out of control because they were so greatly outnumbered. This officer had been there all day and was still very upset with us. His comments were covered by the press. We need to resist the temptation to stoop to the level of our opponents because it only hurts our cause.

Hay algo en lo que todos coinciden. El sistema migratorio actual no funciona.
Por lo demás, hay división entre polÃ*ticos a un dÃ*a de que se celebre en Arlington Heights la cumbre nacional America First, del Proyecto Minuteman.

There is something on which all oincide. The migratory system is not working. Further more, there is division between poiticians at a day they are celebrating in Arlington Heights la national summit America First of the Minteman Project.

Para algunos, la situación es insostenible debido al número de indocumentados que viven en Estados Unidos, que se estima en 12 millones.

For some the situation is insustainable owing to the number of the undocumented that live in the United States, that they estimate at 12 million..

"Experimentamos una invasión de ilegales y eso hay que pararlo porque crea una crisis", dijo Robert Vázquez, descendiente de mexicanos y uno de los oradores de la convención.

"We are experiencing an invasion of illegals we have to stop them because they have created a crisis" says Robert Vaasquez descended from Mexicans and one of th orators at the convention.

Vázquez, actual comisionado del Condado de Canyon en Idaho, además de aspirante a congresista federal, buscó declarar su condado "área de desastre" debido a los problemas "causados por los inmigrantes ilegales".

Otros, como el senador federal Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), coincidieron en que hace falta buscar una solución, pero se mostró más moderado.
"Debemos tener una polÃ*tica de inmigración firme, y lo debemos hacer sin aceptar prejuicios y discriminación", dijo a través de un comunicado.

Others like federal Senator Richard Durbin(D-Ill.) consider it a problem that needs to find a solution but shows to be more moderate. "We need to have a firm immigration policy, we should make one without prejudice or discrimination. he said by way of a communique.

Vázquez insistió en que su mensaje no es racista ni discriminatorio. "Eso de que vienen aquÃ* para hacer los trabajos que nadie quiere es falso. Los americanos también trabajamos en la construcción y en otras actividades para mantener a nuestras familias".
Vázquez abogó por las deportaciones y fuertes sanciones a los empleadores de indocumentados.

Vasquez insists that in is message that is not racist or discriminatory. "It is said of them that they have come here to do work that no one wants this is false. We Americans also are working in construction and in the other activities to keep
our families." Vasquez wants deportations and strong sanctions on the employers of the undocumented.

Sin embargo, Durbin insistió en que "no podemos castigar a personas trabajadoras que construyen una vida mejor para sus familias".

Without stopping Durbin insists in that "we can not castigate working people that are constructing a better life for their famiies.

Por su parte, el portavoz del congresista Tom Tancredo (R-Col.), uno de los acérrimos opositores de la inmigración ilegal, confirmó que Tancredo no asistirá a la cumbre de mañana pese a haber sido invitado. Al cierre de esta edición ni Tancredo ni su portavoz, Will Adams, contestaron las preguntas de Hoy respecto al tema migratorio.

For his part the spokesperson from congressman Tom Tancredo(R-Col.) one of the harshest opponents of ilegal immigration confirms that Tancredo can not assist at the summit tomorrow but has received an invitation. At the close of this session neither Tancredo or his spokesperson Will Adams answers th questions with respect to the theme of migration.

Parte de la campaña se centra también en "ir contra los polÃ*ticos que defienden a los inmigrantes ilegales", dijo Rick Biesada, cofundador del capÃ*tulo Chicago Minuteman Project.

Part of the campaign wil center also on "countering those politicians who defend the ilegal immigrants." said Rick Biesada cofounder of the Chicago chapter of the Minuteman Project.

Algo que no amedrentó al congresista Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.). "Nuestra nación necesita una reforma migratoria adecuada que proteja tanto la seguridad nacional como a los inmigrantes que trabajan duro y contribuyen a un mejor paÃ*s para todos.

This is something which does not frighten congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.). "Our nation needs a migratory reform that adequately protects not only the national security but also the immigrants that work hard and contribute to a better country for all.

Los 'vigilantes' que desprecian los ideales de nuestra nación y amenazan a la gente decente, no aportan nada al debate para mejorar el sistema migratorio", dijo Gutiérrez a través de un comunicado.

The "vigilantes" that deprecate the ideals of our nation and menace the decent people, do not bring anything to the debate for beterring the migratory system." says Gutierrez by way of a communique.
