A 30-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday on a warrant alleging abuse of a 4-month-old baby, who, according to reports, was put on life support at a Colorado Springs hospital.

The baby was taken to Memorial Hospital on Monday for head injuries consistent with being shaken, according to an affidavit by Pueblo police Detective Dan Anderson.

The condition of the baby, Keryn Hernandez, was not available Friday.

Nancy Galvan-Hernandez was baby sitting Keryn when she was injured, the affidavit said.

Galvan-Hernandez had been watching Keryn as often as three times a week for more than a month.

The child and baby sitter are not related. The baby's mother is Sitlalis Pergrino.

Pergrino said her mother usually watched Keryn while she's at work, but her mother was in Mexico so she took the baby to Galvan-Hernandez's house in the 1900 block of Constitution Road.

"Pergrino said when she dropped Keryn off at Nancy's residence she was happy and smiling, moving her hands and legs and feet," the affidavit said.

Galvan-Hernandez told police that when the baby was dropped off, about 6 a.m. the baby looked like she had been crying.

At Galvan-Hernandez's house, Keryn kept crying, yelling and developed breathing problems, the affidavit said. Galvan-Hernandez "gets a diaper wipe and puts alcohol on it and holds it to Keryn's nose to see if this helps," it said.

The affidavit contained conflicting reports from Galvan-Hernandez and Pergrino about Keryn's prior health conditions and whether she was fed before going to Galvan-Hernandez's house.

However, Pergrino said in the document that she "trusts" her baby sitter and "doesn't think she would do anything to hurt Keryn."

Galvan-Hernandez, believed to be an illegal immigrant, was being held in Pueblo County jail without bail.
