    Congress > Legislation
    H.R. 126:
111st CongressThis is a bill in the U.S. Congress originating in the House of Representatives ("H.R."). A bill must be passed by both the House and Senate and then be signed by the President before it becomes law.

Bill numbers restart from 1 every two years. Each two-year cycle is called a session of Congress. This bill was created in the 111st Congress, in 2009-2010.

The titles of bills are written by the bill's sponsor and are a part of the legislation itself. GovTrack does not editorialize bill summaries.

This bill is in the first step in the legislative process. Introduced bills and resolutions first go to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee. [Last Updated: Jan 14, 2009 8:33AM]
Last Action: Jan 6, 2009: Referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary.
Related: See the Related Legislation page for other bills related to this one and a list of subject terms that have been applied to this bill. Sometimes the text of one bill or resolution is incorporated into another, and in those cases the original bill or resolution, as it would appear here, would seem to be abandoned.

To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to limit citizenship at birth, merely by virtue of birth in the United States, to persons with citizen or legal resident mothers.
What is so good about this? We only get half the pie. This means foreign nationals here on green cards or worker program can have a legal American and not have to be a citizen themselves.

It's better than what we have now. Half the pie is better than no pie at all.

No, it's not. Bush just signed an order changing the rules on the H2A visas. The number that employers can bring in is now unlimited. And Congress is threatening to increase the numbers on all the rest of the guest worker programs. And besides, once you change the constitution, you'll play hell ever getting this issue brought up again.

I would like some verification on that myself. That's too opened ended for me. Like, is there a difference from those who actually filed to come here to become a citizen vs those on a temp visa for work or school? Then what happens if the parents commit a crime? Are we right back to must keep them because the child is a citizen? Is it going to become a definate path to citizenship simply because you birthed child during your "probation period"?

This is just starting out. Every politician in the country can make suggestions about changes to it.
And there is a good chance we can't even get this much of it to pass.
