Mexican Deputies Decry Border Wall

Mexico, Dec 4 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican House, in plenary session Tuesday, condemned the US construction of a wall along the common border and said it violates immigrants' human rights.

The approved draft resolution was presented by Deputy Alfredo Rios Camarena, from PRI (Revolutionary Institutional Party), and supported by coordinators from all parties represented in the legislative body.

The House urged the president of the Republic to convey the country's condemnation of this construction and to demand cessation of works in the strongest terms possible.

Noting that the construction also affects relations between Washington and Latin America, the deputies demanded their stance to be conveyed to the Inter-American Human Rights Court, to adopt measures in favor of the human rights of immigrants and promotion of respect to people who try to cross the border looking for work.

In his speech, Rios Camarena said relations between the two countries are unfair, as US treatment of Mexico is humiliating and discriminatory.

We are neighbors, but we remain trapped in this web of international economy and globalization, he stressed.
