Mexico Border Shooting Wounds 2 U.S. Citizens

Report: Mexico Border Shooting Wounds 2 U.S. Citizens

    April 5, 2017 9:35 AM

The Rio Grande stretches westward, forming the border between Reynosa, Mexico (L), and the United States on May 20, 2013 near McAllen, Texas. The Rio Grande Valley area has become the busiest sector for illegal immigration on the entire U.S.-Mexico border with more than a 50 percent increase in the last year. MEXICO CITY (AP) — The Mexican Navy says marines were involved in three shootouts in the border city of Reynosa that killed two suspected gunmen, but said that they were not involved in a fourth shooting that injured two civilians.

El Manana newspaper reported the two wounded civilians were U.S. citizens. Reynosa is across the border from McAllen, Texas.

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City said it was aware of reports of “a shooting incident involving a U.S citizen near the border” but did not confirm the victims’ nationalities because of privacy considerations.

Navy officials said Wednesday that marines came under fire at three points in the city. Marines returned fire in the third incident and killed two armed people in a vehicle.

Reynosa has long been dominated by the Gulf drug cartel.

US citizens? Really? I think we can guess these "US citizens" didn't speak any English.

    STAFF REPORT

REYNOSA — At least two McAllen residents suffered gunshot wounds Tuesday afternoon after Mexican Navy personnel shot at them in a possible case of mistaken identity, multiple Mexican news outlets are reporting.

Reynosa newspaper El Mañana reported clashes between Mexican Navy forces and groups of armed men believed to be involved in organized crime throughout various parts of the city Tuesday afternoon.

El Mañana reported initial unofficial reports were that two armed civilians were killed in the Rosalinda Guerrero neighborhood.

The shootings reportedly began just before 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Las Fuentes Sección Lomas, along with unidentified men deploying improvised metallic tire spikes, commonly utilized to evade Mexican military personnel, throughout different parts of the city.

There was also a report of a blockade in the Monterrey Libramiento area of the city.

Reynosa officials reportedly used social networking pages, Facebook and Twitter, to declare the city under a 'yellow light,' after the reports of shooting, and tire spikes being set throughout the city.

In addition to the two armed civilians who were reported dead, believed to be members of a criminal organization, ElNorte.com and Valor por Tamaulipas, a civilian-run website that reports on dangerous situations within the state of Tamaulipas, are both reporting that the Mexican Navy Men also mistakenly fired on unarmed civilians traveling in a Chevrolet Suburban, carrying a married couple from McAllen, and at least one other passenger.

It is being reported that the people inside the vehicle suffered multiple injuries but their status is unknown.
