Michigan immigration proposal drawing protest
Michigan immigration proposal drawing protest
Published: Sunday, February 27, 2011, 7:40 AM Updated: Sunday, February 27, 2011, 7:41 AM
By The Associated Press
A proposal to allow Michigan police to try to determine the immigration status of people who are stopped on a violation is sparking protest.
The legislation introduced this week was the subject of a protest Saturday at a Detroit church. Opponents say it's modeled after a much-debated Arizona immigration law.
The Michigan proposal deals with cases where police have stopped or arrested someone for a violation who could "reasonably be suspected" of being illegally in the U.S. Providing a valid driver's license or other state-issued identification card would be sufficient proof of legal status.
The bill's supporters say provisions guard against racial profiling.
The bill introduced by Republican Rep. Dave Agema of Grandville also calls for verifying the immigration status of adults before they can receive welfare benefits.

illegals must be deported
If the police find illegal aliens, illegal aliens must be depored. We do not want illegals in this country. We waste lots of money on illegal aliens. It is time to stop it.

Re: Michigan immigration proposal drawing protest
In Michigan everyone 18 and over, while in public, must have on their person a valid driver's license or ID card. When I was 18, I actually got a ticket and was brought to the police station because I didn't have my ID on me. (I was released when my brother brought my ID to the station) Why should illegals get an exception? We are a nation of laws. Illegals need to understand this. And our government needs to stop pandering to the illegal alien sympathizing interest groups. Citizenship or lack thereof has nothing to do with race or skin color. It's very simple. The fact that the majority of illegals in the US are hispanic is irrelevant. If the majority was European, African, or Canadian, they should stll all be deported. We are too politically correct. Just because the majority of a group of law-breakers is one color does not mean that those that want the law enforced are racist!!!

Ditto mepdblue! Illegal invaders and their advocates count on political correctness to rule the day and use it as a mechanism to further their opposition to any law contemplated to stop their illegal invasion.
They use the race card and PC to stand their ground in the face of all Americans who demand this invasion be halted at once! Unfortunately, too many politicians have taken the bait and allow these criminals to do this. It has resulted in our efforts to thwart this invasion being delayed and in some cases defeated temporarily. They continue to do this at every opportunity, just like they are now doing in Michigan!Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Bill Sparks New Debate on Illegal Immigration in Michigan
Posted: 3/1/2011
A new state bill designed to fight illegal immigration has sparked a new debate on immigration in Michigan.
The bill was introduced last week, and already there's been rallies and press conferences against the idea, including on in Traverse City on Tuesday.
Clergy and community leaders spoke out against the proposal saying it will break-up families and that it's rooted in fear.
"It's just out of touch with reality," says Father Wayne Dziekan, Director of the Secretariat for Justice and Peace for the Diocese of Gaylord. "It masks the nation's dire need for comprehensive immigration reform."
They say the bill will allow police to stop and arrest anyone they suspect is here illegally.
State Representative Dave Agema who introduced the bill, says that's not the case.
"You can't just pull someone over for the sake of checking them, but if they pull you over or catch you doing a rape, murder, whatever, and you don't have any ID on you, and they think you may be illegal, then they can check and if they find out you are illegal then they deliver you to ICE," he says.
He went on to tell 9&10 News this is not a racial issue, "this is simple," he says.
Opponents are interpreting the language in the bill different.
"The question is, does it open increased opportunities for people to be arrested because of the color of their skin or because they have an accent... yes it does," says Father Dziekan.
Agema says the bill is needed because illegal immigrants are costing the state jobs and money.
At least two northern Michigan lawmakers are listed as co-sponsors of the bill, including Rep. Ray Franz.
He released the following statement:
"I've listened to the ag community and they - the farmers and producers - have said they need a work force that is 'legal to work'... There are concerns about how the bill will affect people, and I have those concerns as well."

Michigan has been coming down on the illegals, due to the MI Attorney General's fear of the illegals running from AZ to MI! And he's right, in due time they will be scattering to all the other states if the others do not nip it in the arse now.

Latinos are upset as they know that this is going to become the opening for police and the Feds to start to identify and mass deport illegals within our communities. Eventually some of these laws are going to be passed and put on the books. They are going to serve as the base for all states and will be the spear tip in the drive to clean up this nation. Its not going to be AMNISTY or DREAM ACTS, its going to be law enforcement, arrests and deportation that will eventually get the illegals and their families uprooted and sent back to where they belong.
