More immigrants choose to leave U.S., go home

More immigrants choose to leave U.S., go home

Tired of making little money, feeling lonely and fearing arrest, more Latin American immigrants are voluntarily returning home.

BY ANDRES VIGLUCCI, MELISSA SANCHEZ AND JACK CHANG

There was no one thing that caused Hector Salinas to pack his bags and give up for good on the trials of life as an illegal immigrant in South Florida.

But the reasons he enumerates are echoed by increasing numbers of Latin American immigrants, both legal and not, who appear to be souring on their job prospects and going home:

It was the scant money he made at a menial restaurant job, Salinas said, just enough for food and rent, with barely anything left for his family in Mexico — the reason he came in the first place.

It was the constant fear of being detained by U.S. immigration, especially after the relative with whom he shared a home in West Kendall got stopped while driving without a license. After that, they sold the car and got around with great difficulty on a bicycle.

Finally it was the loneliness. He did not bring his wife and young children, whom he had not seen for 2 ½ years, for fear of the risk of arrest and detention.

This is why it is so important that AMNESTY is never granted to the millions of illegals in this country!!! Most of them only come here to WORK...they could care less about America and becoming American.

As the expression goes...water seeks it's own level, and sooner or later many of them will realize that they are better off in their own country for the very reasons expressed in the article.

Enforcing the existing laws works! Employer sanctions work! Take away the magnet...and they will leave voluntarily. It's not rocket science!

attrition through enforcement plus the sagging economy is the perfect storm for a low-cost way for illegals to go home...on their own and on their own dime!

I hope the trend continues. Self-deportation is working. We had a young woman here recently tell the Catholic parishioners that she "didn't want to go home but she had to."

But the crackdown’s critics say it has mainly succeeded in spreading fear among the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country without solving the underlying problem.
The only "underlying problem" is the decades long lack of enforcement of our existing immigration laws. Any further amnesties will only excerbate the problem. NO more amnesties!

This statement says it all....who are the "critics"? Don't they understand that or course if you are breaking the law and are here illegally than you SHOULD be afraid. What is it with these people?? I can see an underlying, unspoken guilt in the words of the critic. What should we feel guilty for? Being stupid for over two decades?
