MS: Detainees say employer sealed off escape routes

Detainees say employer sealed off escape routes
    By EMMA JAMES • August 27, 2008

LAUREL - When federal agents raided the Howard Industries plant early Monday, they sealed off the exits and made it impossible for any of the workers to escape, some of the detainees released said Tuesday.

"When we saw that immigration had us surrounded, it wasn't worth running," one woman, who didn't want her identity published, said through a translator. "All we could think about was what was going to happen to our children. We were worried about them."

The woman and another detainee, who also would not allow her name to be published, said one worker who tried to run was sprayed with Mace.

When the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents scrambled into the plant, they ordered workers to form two lines - one for Hispanics and one for non-Hispanics. They then separated the women from the men.

"They asked us questions like: 'Do you have children or a husband?' 'Where do you leave your children?' 'Have you been arrested before?'" one woman said. "They let us stay, but they put us on house arrest."

One of the many challenges the released detainees face is surviving with no income while waiting for a court date to determine if they will be deported, said the Rev. Roberto Velez, pastor of Peniel Christian Church in Laurel.

"They don't know what they are going to do. They can't work," he said. "Their greatest worry is feeding their children and paying their rent when they don't have an income.

Velez plans to set up a food pantry and financial assistance for families affected by the raid based on donations from the community.

The mood of the Laurel Hispanic community in the aftermath of the raid is fear, said Emmanuel Gonzales, a Howard Industries welder with a work visa. Gonzales was present during the raid but let go after his documents were examined and found valid. Originally from Vera Cruz, Mexico, Gonzales has lived in Laurel for nine years.

"People are scared. They are hiding," he said. "They won't send their children to school. They are worried that someone will come to their house and take them away. They can't get help because they are scared."

The fear is paralyzing, Gonzales said, even for him, a legal worker who has been employed at Howard Industries for six years.

"Right now I am looking for my friends," he said. "Legal or not legal, it doesn't matter to me. The Lord is big, and he takes care of us. Maybe today I'll find them."

    Churches helps these people.

But don't ask us the taxpayer to help anymore

DEPORT THEM ALL; AND THE CHURCHES THAT AID AND ABET THESE ILLEGALS CAN GO TO THE ILLEGALS HOME COUNTRY.

Heck we had doors that were sealed and not unlocked without some trigger of fire or something. They don't leave every door open for anyone to "escape" at will....or atleast a big alarm to let you know what door was triggered and I'm sure ICE would have had men placed there anyway.

Is fleeing a new "right" now, to escape punishment?

Watch.......this will be the next big bitch from the IAs and their advocates......that human rights were violated because law enforcement sealed off all possible means of escape.

"When we saw that immigration had us surrounded, it wasn't worth running," one woman, who didn't want her identity published, said through a translator. "All we could think about was what was going to happen to our children. We were worried about them."

What a crock, all they could do is worry about their children. They've always got to drag the kids into it.

"They asked us questions like: 'Do you have children or a husband?' 'Where do you leave your children?' 'Have you been arrested before?'" one woman said. "They let us stay, but they put us on house arrest."

Hooray......confirmation from an actual detainee that ICE does, in fact, NOT abandon children in the process of arresting the criminal parents.

Let the advocates stick that in their pipes..........

    .
"They don't know what they are going to do. They can't work," he said. "Their greatest worry is feeding their children and paying their rent when they don't have an income.

Awwwww. But all of that was perfectly okay for American citizens, forced out of jobs by illegal aliens, right Pastor?

Now might be a good time for this guy to remind his flock that one reaps what one sows

Velez plans to set up a food pantry and financial assistance for families affected by the raid based on donations from the community.

Good!!! Now's as good a time as any for the churches to start shelling out some of the cash they've had no problems collecting from the illegals.

Wait till they begin being crushed by the demands placed upon them.......see how they like it.

"People are scared. They are hiding," he said. "They won't send their children to school. They are worried that someone will come to their house and take them away. They can't get help because they are scared."

Hate to break it to 'em, but fear is a mainstay in the life of a criminal. It comes with the choice to engage in illegal activity.

    Expect no sympathy here.

What about the American Citizens that the illegal criminal aliens have displaced from working for 30 plus years?

Now if an American is going to jail all we need to say is, oh my children.

And the government is going to go get my child and take care of it.

Ok thank you Ms. Illegal for the education; they should just put an ankle bracelet on the American, too.

Americans shouldn't have less rights than an illegal criminal alien. But believe me the court, jail, ICE, and police would not be as nice to Americans

    Why is this double standard?

You should have thought about that before you entered this country in violation of federal immigration laws and then stole a job from an American citizen using fradulent/stolen documents!

I find it hard to believe that ICE seperated Hispanics from non-Hispanics. That sounds like someone made it up.

One of the many challenges the released detainees face is surviving with no income while waiting for a court date to determine if they will be deported, said the Rev. Roberto Velez, pastor of Peniel Christian Church in Laurel.
Then the Rev Roberto Velez should have all of his parishoners dig deep into their pockets and gather some money to support the illegal aliens and their families waiting for trials. Catholic priests are constantly supporting illegal aliens rights to be here regardless of the law. Lets see how they treat them now.

People are scared. They are hiding," he said. "They won't send their children to school. They are worried that someone will come to their house and take them away. They can't get help because they are scared."
I am SOOOO sick and tired of hearing that Hispanics are "living in fear"! No one asked them to break the law, hide here, and take jobs. The illegal aliens were warned of a raid coming real soon, why didnt they leave? They should be afraid. I hope ICE gets every last one of them!
