Phoenix mayor rips Trump: Pardoning Arpaio 'a slap in the face'

The mayor of Phoenix on Friday blasted President Trump’s decision to pardon former Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio, calling it a “slap in the face.”

“Pardoning Joe Arpaio is a slap in the face to the people of Maricopa County, especially the Latino community and those he victimized as he systematically and illegally violated their civil rights,” Mayor Greg Stanton (D) said in a statement.

“Arpaio target and terrorized Latino families because of the color of their skin. He was ordered by a federal judge to stop and he refused,” Stanton continued. “He received a fair trial and a justifiable conviction, and there’s nothing the President can do to change the awful legacy and the stains he left on our community.

“Donald Trump can ignore the rule of law, but it was our voters who removed Joe Arpaio from power.”

The White House announced Friday night that Trump had pardoned the controversial former sheriff.

“Throughout his time as Sheriff, Arpaio continued his life’s work of protecting the public from the scourges of crime and illegal immigration,” the White House said in a statement.

“Sheriff Joe Arpaio is now eighty-five years old, and after more than fifty years of admirable service to our Nation, he is a worthy candidate for a Presidential pardon.”

Trump had previously hinted at a rally in Phoenix earlier this week that he would pardon Arpaio, saying he predicted the former sheriff would be “just fine.”

Sheriff Joe never targeted anyone but criminals and never terrorized a soul. The Mayor of Phoenix is a mouthpiece puppet talker for the evil forces harming our country and citizens with the scourge of illegal immigration.

Sheriff Joe wanted to address illegal immigration as a law enforcement officer. Obama and company did not like that. Their desire to fundamentally transform America and to keep bringing in future democrat voters was threatened when immigration laws were enforced.

Again, when they fill that town/area with illegals, the snowbirds will quit coming and they add a lot to the economy.

When we stayed their for a while, we decided to rent one of those dwellings in a Senior Stockade. It had appliances, but no furniture, so we did a lot of garage sale and thrift shopping.

We went to a moving sale in a trailer park, they had advertised a desk and my husband needed a desk. It was a middle aged couple and the man was in a wheelchair. We talked and I kinda asked why they were moving, were they leaving the area. They said no, and pointed down the street at a trailer with about a dozen Mexicans/illegals sitting around a grill, drinking, laughing out loud and playing music really loud.

She said they just weren't 'comfortable' anymore.

So sad, citizen flight from illegals. Tragedy.

You hit the nail on the head with that statement! The new sheriff is totally open borders! I DO believe illegals voted in that election, Sheriff Joe had been winning hands down until this crap came down thanks to Obozo and Holder.
