Monday, January 26, 2009

WICHITA, Kan. — Gang retribution for a killing at a wedding two years ago is behind a weekend shooting at a wake that left two people dead and eight others injured, Wichita police said.

Police Lt. Ken Landwehr said Monday that 50 to 100 people were at the wake for a 50-year-old woman Saturday when people in one or two cars began shooting into the crowd. The target apparently was the dead woman's son, who was not injured.

Killed were 66-year-old Keo Intabong and 22-year-old Jeffrey Chitanabong. A 57-year-old men is in very critical condition, three are in serious condition and the rest received minor injuries. All the victims were men ranging in ages from 20 to 57.

The Laotian wake was into its ninth day when the shootings occurred.

Police have no suspects in custody.
