Sheriff: Border watchers were after drugs, money
    By Jamar Younger
    ARIZONA DAILY STAR
    Tucson, Arizona | Published: 06.13.2009

Three people, including the leader of a border watch group and an officer within that group, were arrested in connection with a May 30 home invasion that left a father and his daughter dead and the mother wounded, authorities said.

One of those arrested, Shawna Forde, is the leader of Minutemen American Defense, a group out of Washington state that conducts operations along the U.S.-Mexican border in Arizona. The group is not related to either the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps founded by Chris Simcox, or the Minuteman Project founded by Jim Gilchrist.

Authorities also arrested Jason Eugene Bush, 34, who serves as operations director for the Washington group, and Albert Robert Gaxiola, 42, in connection with the shooting deaths of Raul Flores, 29, and his 9-year-old daughter, Brisenia Flores, said Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.

The three are charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first degree burglary, and one count of aggravated assault.

Several men and a woman claiming to be police officers forced their way into the home in the middle of the night May 30 and killed the pair. The girl's mother was wounded, and investigators believe she returned fire, injuring Bush, Dupnik said.

Dupnik painted a grim picture of the tragedy during a press conference Friday at the Sheriff's Department headquarters.

Raul Flores was a suspected drug dealer, and the three suspects targeted the house with the intention of stealing money and drugs, he said.
Bush was the suspected shooter, Dupnik said.

They did not plan to leave any survivors, he said. "The plan was to kill everyone. To kill a 9-year-old because she might be a potential witness is one of the most despicable acts I've heard of."

Dupnik said Forde and her cohorts even searched for the couple's other daughter, who had spent the night at her grandmother's, with the intention of killing her.

Detectives arrested Bush Thursday in Kingman on a probation violation warrant for auto theft in Washington state, he said.

Bush is currently in a Kingman hospital recovering from a bullet wound after he was shot in the left calf by the mother, Dupnik said.
He will face extradition for the murders when he is released from the hospital, Dupnik said.

Forde was arrested Friday near Sierra Vista, and Gaxiola was taken into custody near South Park Avenue and Benson Highway, he said.
Forde was the suspected ringleader of the operation. Investigators believe the three planned to sell the drugs after the home invasion, he said.

Investigators are still trying to determine if anything was taken from the home, Dupnik said.

He did not elaborate on how the suspects knew the victim, other than to say some of the suspects knew him.

Gaxiola lives in Arivaca, while Bush lived in Meadview, a small community in Northern Arizona near the Nevada border, he said.

Forde is originally from Washington, but Dupnik did not know where she currently lived.

She declined to talk with reporters but denied involvement in the homicides as she was escorted by deputies from the Sheriff's Department headquarters.

Forde has a troubled history that includes accusing her son's friends of shooting her ex-husband and later raping and beating her in Everett, Wash., in December.

Her son was sentenced to prison in October after being convicted of being a felon in possession of weapons.

Forde is executive director of Minutemen American Defense, a border watch group that claims to secure the U.S. Border from human and drug trafficking, according to its Web site.

The Minutemen American Defense group is not associated with the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, said Al Garza, vice president of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps.

Forde was a leader with the Civil Defense Corps a few years ago but was dismissed after a few months because of leadership issues, he said.
Garza did not have a working relationship with Forde, but he met her when she came to Arizona in 2005, he said.

"She showed signs of poor leadership, but I didn't see any wrongdoing," he said.

Bush, whose nickname is Gunny, is the operations director for the group.
According to the Web site, he is a military veteran who has served numerous tours overseas and is in charge of all operations for the organization along the southern border.

"I take a very hard line with drugs and illegal immigration. Make no bones about it, I have a zero tolerance for terrorists, and that is what they are," he wrote on the Web site.

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL STORY when it first happened

Arivaca home invasion leaves 2 dead, 1 injured
Preteen girl, man thought to be dad are shot to death

    By Ernesto Portillo Jr.
    ARIZONA DAILY STAR
    Tucson, Arizona | Published: 05.31.2009

A young girl and a man believed to be her father were shot to death early Saturday during a home invasion in Arivaca, Pima County sheriff's deputies said.

A woman in the home was injured, but her condition was not available Saturday night.

Authorities did not release the names of the victims, who lived in the 36000 block of South Mesquite Road. Neighbors said the girl was 9 or 10 years old.

On Saturday morning, sheriff's detectives and crime-scene technicians were in and out of the white mobile home.

A man who arrived at the scene said he was the victim's father and grandfather to the girl. He declined to comment other than to say his granddaughter was a beautiful girl.

A detective retrieved two dogs from the property and gave them to the man.

Neighbors of the victims declined to give their names. One said the man who died installed hand-water pumps and that the family had lived on the property for generations.

The home is listed by the Pima County assessor as a mobile home on 5 acres. Its assessed value is just under $25,000.

The front yard looked undisturbed on Saturday. Four bicycles were bunched together in the middle of the yard. A tree well was still damp from having been watered.

Several vehicles were parked around the house — a dark green Hummer, a red Ford pickup with extra-large tires, a GMC sport utility vehicle with chrome rims and a Toyota four-wheel-drive vehicle. A red-and-white water tank with "Arivaca" stenciled on its side sat in the front yard, and a green John Deere motorized cart was by the front door.

Sheriff's deputies said they believe the home invaders included four men and one woman. Deputy Jeff Donovan would not say how they knew that or whether they had any leads on the killers. Arivaca is about 50 miles southwest of Tucson.

Minutemen arrested for the murder of a Mexican family

The leader of the Minutemen American Defense organization and two other members were arrested today for the home invasion and brutal murder of a Mexican father and his 8 year old daughter. The mother suffered serious gunshot wounds and is presently in intensive care. The home invasion and murder occurred after midnight in Arivaca, Arizona on May 30th. Arivaca is a small rural community about 10 miles from the Mexican border.

Arrested was 42 year old Shawna Forde who is the National Executive Director of the Minutemen American Defense organization and two of her cohorts, Jason Eugene Bush, age 38, and Albert Robert Gaxiola, age 43. They are accussed of breaking into the home of 29 year old Raul Flores and killing him. They also shot and killed his 8-year-old daughter Brisenia Flores. The mother was also shot but survived.

According to Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, Bush, Forde, and Gaxiola broke into the home of the Flores family just after midnight on May 30th. The Minutemen shot the three members of the Flores family, killing the father, Raul, and the daughter, Brisenia but the mother survived the brutal attack. The Minutemen then left the home. Sheriff Dupnik says the three Minutemen returned moments later to make sure everyone was dead. At that point, the mother who was critically injured, shot and injured Jason Eugene Bush, and the three fled the home again. Detectives say Bush was in the Kingman area when he was arrested and is at a Kingman hospital for the injury he received during the murders. Forde was taken into custody in Sierra Vista and Gaxiola in Tucson.

The Minutemen border vigilantes have been for years operating along the Mexico/Arizona border and have been suspected of killing numerous Mexican migrant workers in the desert. Shawna Forde is originally from Everett, Washington where in 2007 she organized a large anti -immigration rally featuring as speaker Jim Gilchrist, President of the California-based Minuteman Project.

Funny how the aztlan article left out the mention of drugs.

Left out the list of "toys":

Several vehicles were parked around the house — a dark green Hummer, a red Ford pickup with extra-large tires, a GMC sport utility vehicle with chrome rims and a Toyota four-wheel-drive vehicle. A red-and-white water tank with "Arivaca" stenciled on its side sat in the front yard, and a green John Deere motorized cart was by the front door.
And I am wondering, one article states the family has been on the land "for generations"; so how does that make them a "Mexican family"? Other than the surname... but I guess when you are TRYING to inflame your reader's hatred anything goes!

My heart and prayers go out to the victims and their families #1 .
All anti-illegal alien patriotic Americans and organizations should condemn - renounce this violence and all violence against anyone publicly .
Unlike Muslim groups , pro-open border and pro-illegal groups that keep quiet , make excuses or blame America and Americans for the violence that their extremists , and gang members , and those that are here in this country illegally bestow upon Our country on a minute by minute hour by hour day by day outrageous basis .
The left of course will try to spin this into the same as the recent late term abortion doctor murder and Holocaust museum maniac shooter . Blame conservative right wingers and organizations like this . Hogwash !
The good leaders we have need to stand up and put out press releases letting America know who we are and how we feel about violence .
The best defense is a good offense before the left takes these horrible but few instances of violence that are alleged to be by right wing extremists . That is not who we are , we are advocates of law and order .
    Not extremists .
The left wing media is on a campaign of slander , against anything conservative , patriotic and American .
I for one will not be slandered .
Terry Andersen and Kevin James tell it like it is , where is the lefts media outrage toward the admitted ethnic cleansing by latno's and latino gang members in southern California ? All the death and crime caused by those in the counry illegally .
We really need to watch our backs .
    My Opinion .

Seems to me, not too long ago, William wasn't too complimentary on Forde when she was allegedly "raped".

So now, you are saying she is a hero of sorts? I don't understand the logic here.

An outspoken anti-immigration activist from Everett has been arrested in Arizona in connection to a deadly home invasion robbery.

Shawna Forde, the executive director of the Minutemen American Defense, is one of three accused in the shooting deaths of 29-year-old Raul Flores and his daughter, 9-year-old Brisenia Flores, at their home in Arivaca, Ariz., a town 10 miles north of the Mexican border.

Two others - 34-year-old Jason Bush and 42-year-old Albert Gaxiola - were arrested. All three have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of aggravated assault.

According to the Pima County Sheriff's Office, two men and a woman posing as police officers forced their way into the Flores ' home in the middle of the night on May 30.

It is not known exactly what transpired next, but Raul Flores and his daughter were shot and killed. The girl's mother was wounded and is recovering in a local hospital, deputies said.

Investigators believe the killings were premeditated by thieves looking for drugs and money.

On Thursday a tip led detectives to Bush, who was in a hospital in the Kingman area receiving treatment for wounds he allegedly sustained during the robbery.

On Friday deputies arrested Forde and Gaxiola in Sierra Vista and Tucson, respectively.

Investigators believe Forde masterminded the home invasion robbery, which Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik described as "evil" and "heinous."

"It was a planned home invasion where the plan was to kill all the people inside this trailer so there would be no witnesses," he said. "This is perhaps the most despicable crime that any of us in this organization has ever been associated with."

Moments after her arrest, Forde turned to news cameras and denied involvement in the deadly robbery with the words "No, I didn't."

But the sheriff described the woman as a dangerous, unstable person.

"If you look at her history closely and you know what we know, she's, at best, a psychopath," Dupnik said.

The mission of Forde's group is to secure U.S. borders and coastal boundaries from unlawful entry, as well as to "increase the awareness of the devastation caused by illegal immigration to our state and country," according to the group's Web site.

MAD sends volunteers to the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona for the purpose of "gathering exclusive footage of drug cartel drug smuggling and humane trafficking (sic)," Forde wrote on the site.

Bush formerly lived in Washington, where he has a criminal record that includes possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm. It is not known where he currently resides.

Gaxiola is said to be an Arizona resident.
