Gunshots fired in search for drug smuggling suspect east of Sumas

Written by Caleb Hutton | The Bellingham Herald | April 2, 2013

    See below for update.
U.S. Border Patrol had one man in custody and an armed suspect contained to a tight perimeter at a logging trail near Reese Hill and Heady roads Tuesday morning, April 2, after the pair reportedly fired gunshots when border agents tried to approach them.
The sheriff’s office was first alerted to the situation at 9:20 a.m. According to unconfirmed police scanner traffic, border agents had been watching the men for a while, and when they tried to “make contact,” they heard gunshots.
