I think Colbert is not going to do very well as replacement to David Letterman. It's really unwise to attack the people's guy if you're hoping for network ratings.

Suggestion to Colbert: buy some big heavy fruit fast and start dropping it from tall buildings and oh, line up the pets for pet tricks, herds of them. You're gonna need all you can find to salvage your show.

Otherwise, your stint will be short-lived.
