A 32-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to illegally re-entering the country after deportation and having a gun as an undocumented immigrant.

Edwin Vergara-Cedillo was arrested in O'Fallon in July 2017 on accusations of violating an order of protection, and police found and seized a handgun and ammunition from his car, according to a news release from the U.S. District Court of Southern Illinois.

State charges were not pursued due to the federal charges being filed, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Wyatt.

At his change-of-plea hearing in November 2017, Vergara-Cedillo told the court he was an undocumented immigrant and that he had previously been deported to Mexico, according to the news release.

He has been in federal custody since his arrest in July. He was sentenced Thursday in federal court to 18 months for each charge, to be served concurrently.

Just think about all the time and money being wasted on these people who aren't even supposed to be in our country. It's disgusting. Get them out of here.

Only 18 months in prison, while 5 years should of be the sentence.
