Man charged in death of wife, fetus
    Friday, January 11, 2008 3:06 AM

COLUMBUS, OHIO - A man who police said caused a collision with a salt truck that killed his pregnant wife and the fetus has been indicted on charges that include aggravated vehicular homicide.

Alfonso Martinez, 29, of 2208 Country Corner Dr., Apt. B, was driving without a license Jan. 1 when he ran a red light and collided with the truck at Hayden Run Road and Riverside Drive, Perry Township police said. His wife, Paulina, who was two weeks from delivering their child, died.

Three children in the car were injured, including their 2-year-old son, Juan, who suffered a fractured skull. He remained in Nationwide Children's Hospital in good condition yesterday. The other children were not as seriously hurt and are not hospitalized.

The indictment charges Martinez with four counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of aggravated vehicular assault and two counts of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Police said tests revealed he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.148 percent. A person is considered to be driving drunk in Ohio with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher.

These people have no respect for our laws and if they got amnesty would still most likely carry on as they do now. I have a police officer friend who does an off duty assignment at a hospital clinic which is used mostly by illegals and the poor uninsured Americans. There was a hit and run accident where an employee's car was hit. The employee recognized the car that hit her a few days later and told the officer. He looked at both vehicles and could tell that the vehicle was indeed the one who hit the employee. He called another officer to wait for the driver to go to her car and when she did it was an illegal Mexican who didn't speak English. They got a Spanish speaker and he had them tell her if she did not comply with his request for a driver's license and insurance he would call Border Patrol. She had no license or insurance and the officer called her husband and he said that she told him she had an accident but she would not admit it to the police. The woman ended up with numerous tickets as she had an anchor baby so it was pointless to get Border Patrol involved. I can tell you that she most likely will not pay the tickets or go to court and they may move elsewhere. That happens all the time.
