Chesterfield to crack down on illegal immigration

Chesterfield County is now taking steps to crack down on illegal immigration. The Board of Supervisors has given the go-ahead to start drafting new ordinances.

This all goes back to the county’s illegal-immigration report released back in August. It says the county spends around $2 million a year giving services to illegal immigrants.

Legally the county can’t stop providing those services, but it hopes these possible new laws could help get a handle on the situation.

If the Board of Supervisors gets its way, county construction sites like this one will be regulated to make sure contractors aren’t hiring illegal immigrants.

It could even be subjected to random audits.

“It sends the message that we don’t expect contractor people that we do business with to employ people here illegally,â€
