LA VOZ DE AZTLAN: France under security alert

France under security alert as new Muslim riots spread
    LA VOZ DE AZTLAN
    Los Angeles, Alta California
    November 27, 2007

A second night of rioting by Muslim immigrant youths in the suburbs north of Paris has forced the French government to issue an emergency security alert. President Nicolas Sarkozy who is presently in China has cut his trip short and will be returning to France.

French Police described the new riots as being worse than those that occurred in Clichy-sous-Bois in 2005. More than 70 policemen have been injured and numerous government buildings have been burned. A police spokesman said that the French government is being "confronted with scenes of real urban guerilla warfare."

The riots were sparked when two Muslim youths in a motorcycle were killed after being rammed by a police car in Villiers-le-Bel. Early reports say that the police fled the scene and failed to provide emergency services to the teenagers. The riots spread rapidly to the nearby towns of Sarcelles, Garges-les-Gonesse, Cergy, Ermont and Goussainville were rioters were armed with assault rifles, Molotov cocktails, bottles filled with acid and baseball bats, police said. Police said that of the more than 70 officers injured so far, five were in critical condition. "One policeman was hit in the shoulder by a high-calibre bullet," said a security official.

Muslim immigrant neighborhoods in the suburbs of Paris are tinderboxes that often explode into violence in a similar way that Black ghettos and Latino barrios do in the USA. There is heinous discrimination against Muslims in France that manifests itself in extremely high unemployment rates and high incarcerations of youths. The recent election of Nicolas Sarkozy as president of France has worsened the situation. Before the Clichy-sous-Bois riots in 2005 Sarkozy called Muslim youths "scum". Sarkozy is of Jewish descent and extremely unsympathetic to the plight of France's Muslim immigrant communities.

We need to send Selene Dion overthere to tell the police, let them riot, they have nothing else to do,let them touch the police with their granades, the poor little darlings . Put Sean Penn ,Fonda , Bellifonti , Farra-con , Mel Gibson and 'you know who' on the corner blaming the USA and jews , you have recipe for more desaster .

I have believed for some time that the Mexican and Muslim governments are working together against the US.

CNN has different account of the accident and police aid to the boys.

French suburbs rocked by more riots

PARIS, France (CNN) -- The Paris suburbs were again rocked by riots after a second night of lawlessness Monday caused widespread destruction and left scores of police injured, according to French authorities and media reports.

Firefighters in a Paris suburb battle to control a blaze started after youths rioted Sunday night.

An angry mob repeatedly clashed with riot police and torched cars and buildings in the town of Villiers-le-Bel, north of Paris, after two teens on a motorcycle were killed following a collision with a police car Sunday night.

Rioters bombarded police with baseball bats, Molotov cocktail bombs and bottles filled with acid as the violence spread to the nearby towns of Longjumeau and Grigby Monday night.

The 15- and 16-year-old boys, both sons of African immigrants, according to police, died when their motorbike hit a patrol car in Villiers-le-Bel.

Some residents, populated largely by immigrants and their French-born children, accused police of fleeing the crash scene. However, three eyewitnesses, interviewed on TV, said the police stayed and tried to revive the two boys with mouth to mouth resuscitation. Watch why a repeat of past rioting is feared »

More than 60 police officers were injured in Monday night's confrontation, with five kept in hospital in a serious condition, according to reports in a number of French newspapers.

A spokesman for the police authorities in the Val d'Oise prefecture refused to confirm the numbers of police injuries, telling CNN that police feared the information could further enflame the already tense situation.

The police spokesman said 60 cars, a library and car dealer's showroom had been set on fire in Villiers-le-Bel. He said a police station had also been damaged and 15 garbage cans torched.

Security was tightened Tuesday, with helicopters deployed to patrol over the town, the spokesman said.

Villiers-le-Bel was not among the districts hit by the weeks of nationwide rioting in November 2005, when disaffected youths nationwide set thousands of cars ablaze to protest against unemployment and discrimination.

Those riots were also sparked by fatalities, namely the deaths of two men of North African descent who were electrocuted while hiding from police in an electrical substation.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy, then serving as the interior minister, provoked controversy at the time by referring to the rioters as "scum."

Sarkozy, currently on a state visit to China, had urged residents Monday to "cool down and let the justice system determine who is responsible for what." A spokesman for the president's office told CNN Tuesday they were continuing to monitor the situation.

The prosecutor's office in the nearby town of Pontoise has already begun an inquiry into the deaths.

Police said the teens drove through a red light without wearing helmets and on an unregistered bike.

But Omar Sehhouli, the brother of one of the victims, told French media the police involved should be arrested. "Everyone knew the two boys here," he told French radio. "What happened, that's not violence, it's rage."

According to the initial findings from the French police watchdog, reported Tuesday in the daily newspaper, Le Figaro, the boy's motorbike was driving "at very high speed" and had failed to give priority to the police patrol vehicle.

The police car was driving normally at around 40 kilometers an hour, the newspaper reported the watchdog had found.

Though there were other major riots like the "Watts Riot of 1965", the L.A. rebellion was different in that for the first time Chicanos, Mexican-Americans and other Latinos joined in the fracas making it the costliest in the city's history. These two riots, like those in France today, were caused by incidents of police brutality, racism and lack of economic opportunity affecting Black and Latino youths.

Today, here in Los Angeles, we are already seeing ominous signs of an impending social explosion that will make the French rebellion by Muslim and immigrant youths seem "tame" by comparison. All the ingredients are present including a hostile and racist police as in France. In fact, we came close to having major riots on three separate occasions just this year alone. The first incident was the killing by the Los Angeles Police Department of 13 year old Devin Brown, a Black youth, out for an innocent "joy ride" at night. The second was the shooting death by the LAPD SWAT Team of 19-month-old Suzie Peña, a baby of Salvadorean origins. In this case LAPD Police Chief Bratton made a very insensitive public comment (ala French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy) after he ordered the baby's body tested for drugs. As if to excuse the baby's killing by his police department, he said, "The body tested positive for cocaine!" The third serious police brutality case was the savage beating of Black Muslim Minister Tony Mohammed while he was ministering to a family that had lost a son to gang violence.

On top of all this, there are major rumblings in the high schools of the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest in the USA. A few days ago, thousands of students, predominantly of Mexican descent, simply walked out of their schools to protest overcrowding, lack of texts, lack of desks and unqualified teachers. There is a strange feeling here in Los Angeles that something sinister is about to happen but no one knows when. All it will take is for a "bird-brain cop" to do something stupid and all hell will break loose. If another major rebellion breaks out here in L.A. it could rapidly spread throughout the USA as it has spread in France.

The social and economic conditions that exist in France that adversely affect its immigrant and Muslim populations also exist here in the USA. These conditions negatively affect our Black, Latino and immigrant populations in the same way. The rebellion that is occurring in France can and will most probably happen here. If it does, it will have grave consequences on the social, political and economic structures of the country and it could possibly topple a government already weakened by the Iraq War and corruption within its ranks.
Don't worry we're ready and waiting. The rest of the country will blame the people of California and somehow we the people of California deserve it. Wake up your next! We fougth the good fight and were laughed at and called names. We are still fighting everyday, every time I have to speak Spanish a part of America dies ... But the people who really deserve credit are the people who moved out of state running away from the invaders then laughing at those still fighting.

It's time for Sarkozy to bring out the French Army with the order to stop this bullcrap AT ANY COST to the rioters.

The French CITIZENS shouldn't have to put up with it from legal immigrants OR illegal immigrants.

I think the people who would like to engage in this type of behavior in the U.S. know better than to try it.

THAT'S WHY THEY HAVEN'T TRIED IT.

They know how this president would react to that.

Not too kindly. You know he's not going to put up with violent protests in the streets of America.

I know who is responsible for the riots. My question is why doesn't the MSM tell us that it is caused by Islamists? All they say is that "2 youths" were attacked, which in turn caused the riots.
