(Natural News) Even though state and federal officials have been saying for weeks now that the water in and around East Palestine, Ohio, is safe to consume and there’s no worry at all, much of it is now slated for transport to Texas because it is ‘toxic’ and must be ‘disposed of properly’, according to a Friday report.
According to a top official from Harris County, home to Houston, the water will be headed to a suburb for disposal.
“I and my office heard today that ‘firefighting water’ from the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment is slated to be disposed of in our county,” noted Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo in a Wednesday statement on Twitter. “Our Harris County Pollution Control Department and Harris County Attorney’s Office have reached out to the company and the Environmental Protection Agency to receive more information about the timing, transportation mechanisms, and contents, as well as to ensure all regulations are being met.”

I heard the news today about East Palestine “firefighting water” being sent to Harris County and will continue pushing for information for our community.

    11:31 PM · Feb 22, 2023

No further details were given, however, the judge did say that her office is working very closely with the Deer Park, Texas mayor.
“I have communicated with Deer Park Emergency Management and Mayor [Jerry] Mouton and am very sensitive to the concerns that this news naturally brings to our community,” Hildago’s statement noted further. “We will keep residents informed as we learn more.”
The wastewater is being directed to Texas Molecular, a company that specializes in disposing of hazardous waste by injecting it into the ground. This follows a recent announcement from Ohio EPA officials, who expressed concern that the fire-suppressing chemicals used may have entered the Ohio River, potentially creating a chemical plume that is now flowing downstream, Zero Hedge reported.
Per the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Texas Molecular “is authorized to accept and manage a variety of waste streams, including vinyl chloride, as part of their … hazardous waste permit and underground injection control permit,” which includes the chemical vinyl chloride, just one of several that the Norfolk Southern train was carrying when it derailed due to an overheated axle on car No. 23.
“Our technology safely removes hazardous constituents from the biosphere. We are part of the solution to reduce risk and protect the environment, whether in our local area or other places that need the capabilities we offer to protect the environment,” the company said in a statement to KHOU-TV. The firm added that it will be injecting the water very deeply into the earth, allegedly so that it doesn’t seep into local water tables.
“This injection, in some cases, is usually 4,000 or 5,000 feet down, below any kind of drinking water aquifer,” said George Guillen, the executive director of the Environmental Institute of Houston. The environmental expert says there’s nothing for anyone to worry about though the water contains “very, very toxic” materials.
At a press conference, representatives from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency stated that the chemicals used to extinguish the fires that broke out after the derailment may have infiltrated the Ohio River, resulting in the formation of a chemical plume that is currently in motion downstream.
After visiting the site of the derailment on February 23 (after Donald Trump did), Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg cautioned Norfolk Southern, the railway company responsible for the incident, to follow through on its commitments to clean up the area near East Palestine and assist the town in its recovery efforts, The Epoch Times reported.
During his visit, Buttigieg also met with representatives from the National Transportation Safety Board, who had recently issued a preliminary report on their findings. The Secretary has faced scrutiny for his handling of the disaster.

(Natural News) Government health officials on the state and federal level are continuing to lie to the American public about the severity of the massive spill and burnoff of highly toxic chemicals following a major train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, earlier this month.
The lack of answers regarding health effects and accountability continues to frustrate hundreds of people who were evacuated. This frustration is due to the uncertainties surrounding the evaluation of health risks by government leaders and scientists and the short- and long-term health effects associated with exposure to vinyl chloride or other chemicals.
While scientists can estimate risks and provide opinions, the health outcomes of those exposed to vinyl chloride in the aftermath of the accident remain unknown. The affected individuals want to know what will happen to their health or the health of their children as a result of the incident, notes a report from the Center for Health, Environment & Justice.
    The report notes further:
Here’s what we do know. We know that vinyl chloride is a human carcinogen and that it damages the liver and central nervous system; over 1,500 people living within a 1-mile by 2-mile area of the accident were evacuated; that Norfolk Southern opted to release and burn the vinyl chloride from all five derailed tankers releasing deadly fumes into the air to prevent a potentially disastrous explosion (see photo); that the state acted swiftly in evacuating the homes immediately surrounding the site of the accident; that 38 of the 150 cars being pulled by the train derailed; about 20 rail cars were carrying hazardous materials including five with vinyl chloride; other chemicals included butyl acrylate, ethyl hexyl acrylate and ethylene glycol mono-butyl ether.
We also know that several days after the accident, most people are back in their homes with assurances from the local authorities that everything is fine.
    Indeed, they are not.
According to researchers from Texas A&M University and Carnegie Mellon University, despite officials’ assurances that the air and water in the town is safe, residents affected by the train derailment and subsequent chemical fallout in East Palestine, Ohio, could face a range of long-term health complications due to prolonged exposure to toxic substances, according to the Daily Wire.
One of the chemicals released in the accident was vinyl chloride, a known human carcinogen used in the production of PVC. The massive plumes of black smoke from the five train cars were visible throughout eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
Researchers said of the roughly 50 chemicals present on the derailed train, nine of them have higher concentrations than usual in East Palestine. The researchers are particularly worried about above-normal levels of acrolein, a substance with a strong odor that is considered “highly toxic” when inhaled, according to a CDC report. Other chemicals charted at abnormally high levels included benzene, naphthalene, and vinyl chloride. “If these levels continue, they may be of health concern,” said the researchers.
    The Daily Wire noted further:
The findings come after the EPA said that “test results from the village’s municipal well sampling showed no water quality concerns,” while Governor Mike DeWine (R-OH) announced that tests conducted by the Ohio EPA revealed “no detection of contaminants in raw water from the five wells that feed into East Palestine’s municipal water system.” Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA) likewise remarked in a recent interview that tests of municipal water supplies and wells have not shown any “concerning readings” of hazardous chemicals.
The EPA was informed by Norfolk Southern, the company responsible for the train derailment, that in addition to vinyl chloride, several other volatile chemicals, including ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and ethylhexyl acrylate were present at the accident site. However, the EPA released the full list of substances only after residents were told that it was safe to return to their homes, leading to criticism of the handling of the situation.
Once again, Americans cannot get a straight answer from those we elected and entrust to do the right thing by us.

East Palestine residents issue list of demands to government “demanding action” following train derailment chemical catastrophe

(Natural News) An Ohio nonprofit group called River Valley Organizing has created a list of demands for Norfolk Southern to accommodate locals who were harmed by the disaster.
Concerned residents need help relocating, one of the demands reads. Another calls for increased environmental and medical testing and monitoring to ensure that East Palestine and the surrounding region is safe for people and animals.
(Related: Some say that East Palestine needs to be continually monitored and tested well into the future for both for dioxins and furans.)
River Valley Organizing also wants Norfolk Southern to safely dispose of all toxic waste in the area while covering all the costs associated with cleanup efforts.
“We heard the people of East Palestine loud and clear: what they want are safe homes and independent testing,” said Jami Cozy, an RVO organizer and resident of East Palestine.
“It is only through coming together and demanding action that we will hold Norfolk Southern accountable and get families and businesses in our community the help they are owed.”
Too much taxpayer money going to Ukraine instead of East Palestine

For residents that feel they need to temporarily relocate to a hotel or safe house until the chemical scourge has passed, RVO wants Norfolk Southern to foot their bills until life can return back to normal.
RVO also wants the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct air, soil, and water testing for dioxins, which are among the most dangerous and persistent chemicals in the world.
EPA Region 5 Administrator Debra Shore says the agency does not currently test for dioxins because it does not “have baseline information in this area to do a proper test.”
The federal Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) must also get involved to “provide ongoing health monitoring” and “guarantee health coverage” for residents, many of whom are reporting headaches and rashes.
One such resident told the media that her child became sick after playing in a local park following the derailment.
The Ohio Department of Health recently opened a health clinic to help residents get screened for any medical concerns they might have. It is free, and it allows visitors to have their vitals taken and receive a medical evaluation.
RVO is also concerned about the disposal of toxic waste from the wreck “in the heritage thermal toxic incinerator” in nearby East Liverpool, which the group says “has already been polluting our communities for years” and “will only further spread the contaminants.”
Finally, it is completely unacceptable for any resident of East Palestine or nearby towns to have to pay for all this out of their own pocket. That should be the responsibility of Norfolk Southern, RVO says.
“Taxpayers shouldn’t foot this bill,” RVO wrote in a post on Facebook. “Norfolk Southern made this mess. They should clean it up.”
In order to compile this list of demands, RVO volunteers went door to door in East Palestine asking residents to share their points of view on the matter. RVO also conducted phone canvassing and listened to residents speak at the recent town hall meeting.
The EPA reportedly screened 578 homes for reentry as of February 27. The federal agency is continuing to monitor several locations throughout the village.
“Compared to EPA National Air Toxics data (NATA 2014), some concentrations in East Palestine (OH) for 9 out of ~50 chemicals EPA reported are higher than ‘normal.’ If these levels continue, they may be of health concern (especially acrolein),” tweeted researchers from Texas A&M University on February 24.
In the comments, someone joked that too little is being done in East Palestine because the American government is too busy wasting taxpayer dollars “funding Ukraine’s quest for power and covering up its corruption.”

Scientific report shows that East Palestine air has “higher than normal” concentrations of NINE toxic chemicals

(Natural News) Experts from Texas A&M University and Carnegie Mellon University say that the air quality in and around East Palestine, Ohio, is poor, containing “higher than normal” concentrations of as many as nine different harmful chemicals.
Using their own mobile testing unit, the scientists have been collecting air samples near the site of the Norfolk Southern train crash. Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) continues to reassure the public that East Palestine is safe.
While the nine detected chemicals are not necessarily an “immediate health concern,” the experts warn that repeated and continued exposure to them over a prolonged period of time could damage people’s health.
What we know now is that in additional to vinyl chloride, the other chemicals on the derailed train that underwent a “controlled explosion” include butyl acrylate, benzene residue, glycol monobutyl ether, ethylhexyl acrylate, and isobutylene. The toxic byproducts of these chemicals when burned are numerous.
“That material that’s dumped onto the ground or into the water could reemit from the ground whenever the temperature changes or whenever it’s windy,” said Dr. Albert Presto, an associate research professor of mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon’s Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation and one of the experts monitoring air quality in East Palestine.
“It’s not elevated to the point where it’s necessarily like an immediate ‘evacuate the building’ health concern. But we don’t know necessarily what the long-term risk is or how long that concentration that causes that risk will persist.”
(Related: Animals are reportedly dying at state parks across Ohio ever since the disaster.)
Independent scientists say East Palestine air quality is polluted; EPA says everything is just fine

The mobile testing van that is collecting air samples has traveled all around the region, including in Pittsburgh and even Baltimore. The experts then compared these samples to those collected in and around East Palestine to compare and contrast.
At the same time, the EPA has only screened the air inside 578 homes, declaring its chemical pollution levels to be below what is considered “safe” in terms of residential air quality standards.
The most concerning chemical detected was actually acrolein, which is either a clear, colorless gas or a pale, yellow, strong-smelling liquid. It easily evaporates at room temperature, producing toxic concentrations of the chemical.
“It is poisonous no matter what the exposure route is,” one report explains. “It causes inflammation and irritation of the skin, respiratory tract and mucus membranes.”
“After it is inhaled, it can cause delayed pulmonary edema – excess fluid in the lungs … This can lead to coughs, chest pain and fatigue … It is formed when fossil fuels are burnt and is also a by-product of fires.”
The other eight chemicals detected include benzene, vinyl chloride, butadiene, naphthalene, o-Xylene, trichloroethylene, trichloroethane and butadiene.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies vinyl chloride as carcinogenic to humans, meaning it causes cancer. Prolonged exposure to vinyl chloride over many years is likely to induce liver damage and cancer.
In addition to being breathable as a toxic gas, vinyl chloride can also be ingested via contaminated drinking water. This remains a concern throughout Ohio, and really anywhere that relies on drinking water potentially contaminated by the explosion.
“A five-minute exposure to over twice the level it can be smelt at can cause dizziness,” reports explain. “At levels five times that high, exposure can cause drowsiness, a loss of coordination, issues with sight and hearing, disorientation, nausea, headache, and burning or tingling in the arms and legs.”

EPA still refusing to test for toxic dioxins in East Palestine, Ohio

(Natural News) For whatever reason, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is refusing to test for dioxins in East Palestine following the Norfolk Southern train derailment incident.
Local media outlet WKBN reported that the EPA is not going to test for dioxins even though the “controlled explosion” more than likely released the world’s largest dioxin plume. (Related: Park animals all across Ohio are dying “at alarming rates.”)
EPA Region 5 administrator Debra Shore confirmed that no dioxin testing will take place at the current time because her agency is unable to determine how many dioxins were present before the disaster to establish a baseline.
“Dioxins are ubiquitous in the environment,” Shore is quoted as saying.
“They were here before the accident; they will be here after, and we don’t have baseline information in this area to do a proper test. But we are talking to our toxicologist and looking into it.”
The EPA has since conducted air and water quality tests, maintaining that the chemical levels detected are “safe.” Locals, meanwhile, are getting sick with headaches, rashes, and other concerning symptoms.
EPA doesn’t want to test for dioxins because then it would have to address the reality of the situation

Stephen Lester, the science director at the Center for Health, Environment, and Justice (CHEJ), stated at a February 23 town hall meeting in East Palestine that the EPA’s ignoring of dioxin testing is “one major mistake.”
“The level of dioxin that gets into a body, a person, an animal, a cow, that could lead to health problems is extraordinarily low,” he added. “It does not take very much.”
“I’d be very concerned if I had a farm, especially if I was aware, as some people described in that meeting, that the black cloud from the burning had settle onto their property.”
The reason the EPA is refusing to test for toxins, in Lester’s view, is because the agency would then “be put in a place where they have to address it.” The EPA also does not “have any baseline information about the levels of dioxins which are produced also by wildfires, by backyard grilling, by a host of other things,” he added.
“I’ve never heard anybody, any researcher, talk about cookouts,” Lester added. “Because that’s an infinitesimal concentration, if at all. Because dioxins form not just cause there’s burning, you need a chlorine source.”
On February 18, Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Vance and Ohio Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown sent a letter to the EPA requesting that the agency test for dioxins in an around East Palestine.
“We are concerned that … the burning of large volumes of vinyl chloride may have resulted in the formation of dioxins that may have been dispersed throughout the East Palestine community and potentially a much large[r] area.”
Shore confirmed that the EPA did, in fact, receive the letter. The agency is refusing to honor the request, though, and seems to have no plans to ever test for dioxins.
“Of course little will be done to aid the people around the Ohio train derailment and chemical spill because there is nothing out there but rural conservative rubes,” one commenter wrote about how little the government thinks of those who live in East Palestine.
“They deserve whatever happens to them because they didn’t follow the narrative and drink the woke Kool-Aid,” this person added tongue-in-cheek. “EPA is going to get the remains and ash cleaned up but not do any more than they absolutely have to, to get by. The rail company will pay lip service and dole out as little compensation as possible and the folks living there will end up screwed by both the feds and the rail company.”
