Betsy, you never have to worry about that here in Oregon. The hotels can be close, but not on it, and most are pretty standard, and no more than a few stories (I believe most town on our coast have set limits). Coastlines are constantly eroding and if you are dumb enough to build your home on a soft enbankment overlooking the beach, you better expect to have it eventually erode into the ocean...

Dianne, you all would love it here. We have all manner of different locations. The coastal, lush green inland valley (where a good amount of farming is done), alpine in the mountains, rolling palouse and high desert (think John Wayne westerns) and the drier eastern mountain ranges. The coastal region is the wettest, even when we were there, the dew made everything soaked (in July no less).
