Ten women were arrested in Spijkenisse on Saturday while demonstrating against Geert Wilders who was in the Rotterdam satellite town for a campaign visit.

Wilders was in Spijkenisse to hand out ‘resistance sprays’ to female supporters – small bottles of spray dye – as part of his campaign to have pepper spray made legal.

The PVV leader says Dutch women should be able to protect themselves against ‘Islamic testosterone bombs’ by using the spray. He launched the campaign following the New Year sexual assaults in Cologne.

Supporters The women chanted ‘Wilders racist, not a feminist’ for several minutes before being arrested for breach of the peace. Nor had they asked for official permission to hold the demonstration, police said.

As they chanted, several Wilders’ supporters shouted at the women. One man, with a crying child on his arm, shouted ‘you want to be raped, you are dirty, you want a willy.’ He was not picked up.

A young girl made similar comments. GroenLinks MP Liesbeth van Tongeren has already said she will raise the arrests in parliament. ‘Freedom to demonstrate?’ she said on Twitter.
