Emergency preparedness: How to charge your smartphone during a power outage

(Natural News) When preparing for a power outage, you may spend a lot of time stocking up on supplies like food, water and fuel for your backup power or cooking methods.
Before SHTF, make sure you also have backup methods for charging your devices, especially important gadgets like your smartphone. (h/t to ApartmentPrepper.com)
Since 2022, several electrical substations in North Carolina have been vandalized. After each incident, thousands of residents in the area lost power.
This emphasizes the need to have a backup power source like solar energy or a generator so you can power small appliances and charge important devices like your smartphone.
Since electric power is subject to interruptions, whether natural or man-made causes, you should always be prepared to face a short- or long-term power outage. If the phone lines are still working, you will need to keep your smartphone charged so you can call your family members or emergency services when SHTF.
If you are worried about keeping your phone charge during a survival scenario, make sure you have several methods to charge your phone without electricity.
Before SHTF, make sure you keep your cell phone fully charged so you have time to find other ways to charge it when the battery starts to run out.
Charge your devices ahead of time and conserve power

Even if you can charge your phone during a blackout, limit the amount of power you are currently using so the charge can last as long as possible.
Try the tips below to conserve your phone’s power:

    • Switch to airplane mode, unless you need to call someone.
    • Put your phone in power-saving mode.
    • Lower the brightness of the phone’s display setting.
    • Turn off all unimportant apps that you are not using.
    • If it’s dark, don’t use your phone’s flashlight. Instead, use other light sources like a lantern, candle, or a regular flashlight instead.
    • Unless it’s an emergency, don’t use the GPS function. You can also conserve your phone’s battery by having backup paper maps to use during a power outage.
    • Turn off all the features you don’t need, like Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. If you need them, just turn them back on.
    • In an emergency, text family or friends instead of calling them. When SHTF, they are also more likely to receive a text instead of a call.
    • Avoid extreme heat or cold since extreme temperatures can drain the battery.
    • If your phone’s battery is getting really low, turn it off until you need to call or text someone. (Related: Emergency preparedness: How to survive a power outage.)

9 Ways to charge your phone during a power outage

Before disaster strikes, you can use these methods to charge your phone during a power outage.
    Hand crank charger
A charger with a backup hand crank power generator is a great option for charging your phone when SHTF.
Look for a charger that is water-resistant and sturdy so you can bring it when you need to bug out or just go camping. Some products may also have three modes of power, like AAA batteries, hand crank and solar.
    Light charger
A light charger will provide light when it’s dark, and you can use it to charge your phone when SHTF.
A product like the SunJack Waterproof Lightstick provides a light with three handy brightness settings: Dim, normal and bright. It also has an emergency blinking strobe.
The light is waterproof up to six feet in depth and it has two lanyards so you can hang the Lightstick vertically or horizontally across two hooks.
When connected to the light stick, your phone should be fully charged after several hours.
    Portable power banks
If you need your phone for many prepping tasks, you should have a reliable portable power bank.
Make sure you get a power bank that is “high capacity,” fast-charging and light. It should also provide surge protection and temperature control.
Buy a portable power bank that is compatible with your device.
    Portable power station
If you need something with more juice, get a portable power station. This option can power several electronics, not just a smartphone.
You will need the right kind of power station to suit your specific charging needs.
When looking for a power station, here are three numbers to remember:

    • The storage capacity (in watt-hours)
    • The output watts, or the size of appliances you can operate
    • The amount of solar that you can input to charge the station

These important numbers will define how much load you can run, and for how long. If you can input a significant amount of solar energy into the portable power station, you can recharge it in a reasonable amount of time.
    Selfie stick with power bank
Taking selfies is the last thing you need to do during a power outage, but it’s always good to have a backup for your backups if you need to charge many devices during a power outage.
Some selfie sticks with a power bank may also come with a light.
    Solar charger
Solar chargers are a great option for charging small electronics, especially if your area gets a lot of sunlight.
    Stove charger
With a stove charger, you can charge your phone using tinder and twigs.
A product like the BioLite CampStove 2 can be used to cook outdoors and charge small devices like a phone at the same time.
BioLite stoves don’t require gas or specific weather like solar chargers to charge your phone. The stove comes with an integrated 2600 mAh battery that charges devices with or without a live fire.
BioLite’s patented core technology captures waste heat from the fire through a heat probe attached to the orange powerpack. This heat is then converted into electricity via a thermoelectric generator.
The CampStove will produce a charge rate as high as 5v of electricity for charging a phone. The output is enough to charge a phone or tablet, but you can also use the stove to charge radio gear or battery power banks.
Simply feed the stove small sticks and twigs for an almost endless source of power.
    Use your car
If you are desperate, you can use a USB 12-volt adapter to charge your phone through your car’s cigarette lighter slot.
Before turning on your car, make sure you are in a well-ventilated area. Don’t use your car for charging if it is parked in an enclosed garage to avoid carbon monoxide fumes.
    Use your laptop
During a long-term power outage, you won’t be able to use your laptop to go on the internet or for making video calls. If your laptop is fully charged, plug your phone into the USB port and charge it.
Before SHTF, having several backup methods to charge your phone without electricity means your phone will not run out of power when you need to make emergency calls.

Shooting for Women Alliance founder: You are your only responder when things go bad

(Natural News) For Susan Romanov, founder of the Shooting for Woman Alliance (SFWA), “you are your only responder when things go bad.” SFWA is a non-profit organization that aims to educate and motivate women and men in their lives in increasing the odds of prevailing in a self-defense situation and shooting sports.
Romanov, who was held hostage for five and a half hours in her own home back in the ’90s and was stalked for two years, recounted her traumatic experience with Jason Schaller during a recent episode of “For the Love of Guns.” That chapter of her life inspired the creation of SFWA.
According to Romanov, she called 911 but did not get an answer before the assailant broke the landline and held her hostage. Not long after the incident, she was stalked and followed for a couple more years by an unidentified man. Eventually, she was advised to get a gun and train to protect herself.
“When your life is at stake, everything starts to change. So, it [having a firearm] was immediate. I guess [it] is the best answer,” she said. The gun expert also pointed out how awareness levels can help reduce the odds that people get attacked.
“You can keep your situational awareness level up. The difference is you have to want to do so and decide that’s the most important thing for you. Because until that happened to me, my awareness level [was too low]. But when you know that you have this threat, then you make it yours. Now it’s a lifestyle for me. You have to accept the fact that awareness is the key to safety.”

But she warned that being able to carry a gun can also lead to having a false sense of security.
While the presence of a gun often makes people with bad intentions leave, Romanov said it is not your go-to thing if you don’t know how to use it. “So, it is a false sense of security. And my heart is really heavy for people that are just carrying guns, especially with the new ‘let’s do the non-constitutional carry permit.’ They don’t really know anything about what it takes to defend yourself with a gun.”
Schaller agreed as there are a lot of legal issues with carrying guns, regardless of what state one is in. So, he said, it is important to go to a knowledgeable and credible instructor. “The first concealed carry class that I went through, we lucked out that we chose the right instructor right off the bat,” Schaller said.
DeSantis approves permit-less carry gun bill

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is trying his best to make it easier for his constituents to defend themselves. He recently signed into law a bill allowing residents to carry a concealed loaded weapon without a permit, NBC News reported.
Bill sponsors, legislative leaders and gun rights advocates, including the National Rifle Association (NRA), were present when DeSantis signed the legislation.
“This is a momentous step in the Constitutional Carry movement as now the majority of American states recognize the Constitution protects the right for law-abiding Americans to defend themselves outside their homes without fees or permits,” Randy Kozuch, interim executive director of the NRA-ILA, the lobbying arm of the National Rifle Association, said in a statement. “The carry movement began decades ago and the NRA has been working to get this legislation passed throughout America. Therefore, today is indeed a day to celebrate.”
Florida is now the 26th state to pass some form of permit-less carry law. The measure came on the heels of the transgender mass shooting that killed six victims, including three children, at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. (Related: Nashville shooting aftermath: Anti-gun and pro-transgender activists storm state capitol buildings.)

Top 6 reasons people are ADDICTED to NICOTINE, plus an effective, natural escape plan (contributed content)

Friday, April 21, 2023 by: Herbal Remedy Insider
Tags: addiction cravings, addition, end addiction, freebase nicotine, goodhealth, krave kicker, nicotine, quit smoking, quit vaping, smoking, stop smoking, stop vaping, superfood
    4,220VIEWS

(Natural News) (Third party contributed content) Quitting nicotine use is one of the toughest tasks known to humans, but most non-smokers and non-vapers have no sympathy or empathy for this, as they just assume these folks know it’s bad for their health and aren’t attempting to stop. Nothing is further from the truth, as nearly all nicotine users, over time, wish nothing more than to stop, but nothing seems to work. Most “quit methods” just keep them addicted, like the nicotine patch and the nicotine gum. Most smokers who switch to vaping actually vape more than they smoked, and it’s still free-based nicotine, meaning it’s treated with AMMONIA to be much more potent, more addicting, and harder to quit.
Some smokers began sucking back on cancer sticks when they were in middle school or high school, either to look cool, or just to be experimental. Little did they know then that smoking addiction is like a strong undertow in the ocean, and once you get sucked in, you can’t just swim your way out when you want to. A strong undertow is known to pull a human out into the ocean hundreds of feet in just seconds, and commercial cigarettes are laced with ammonia-treated nicotine that has 100 milligram potency that is NOT disclosed on the pack or the carton. It sucks you into the ruthless habit like an ocean undertow after a hurricane.
Statistic: 60% of smokers who switch to vaping never return to cigarettes, but how can they ever quit vaping if it’s still free-based nicotine?

Nobody ever actually chooses to be addicted to nicotine. One way or another, they got sucked into it, and now they want out. About a decade ago, vaping starting getting popular, and millions of cigarette smokers around the world realized that if they switched to it, they would be eliminating thousands of toxins, including bug-killing and weed-killing chemical pesticides.
So they did. Millions of smokers switched to vaping, and 60% of them never smoked a cancer stick since, but many are still chronic nicotine users, thanks to their expensive little nicotine delivery device called a vape gadget. Got nic juice? What’s the milligram dosage of nicotine? Have you looked? Check to see if it is free-based nicotine, because the vast majority, more than 90%, of all e-liquids (vaping juices) are jacked up with ammonia to keep you hooked (they say it’s to purify the nicotine).
Sometimes, people are doing pretty well who “quit” smoking or vaping, but then something stressful happens (called a trigger), or someone around them smokes or vapes, and voila, they’re right back into it. Drinking alcohol can also be a trigger for ex-smokers.
Top 6 reasons people can’t seem to quit nicotine, plus a very effective escape plan

#1. You started out young and it just kept getting worse
#2. You thought you would just try vaping a little and now you’re hooked
#3. You quit smoking, but then you got triggered when something stressful happened, and it dragged you right back in
#4. Whenever you have an adult beverage, like liquor or beer, you simply need a smoke
#5. People around you at home or work smoke, so it seems like there’s no way to quit
#6. You’ve tried just about every quit method and nothing has worked
Ready to escape nicotine addiction once and for all? Most people smokers and vape “customers” are. Do you, or a friend or loved one, suffer from anxiety or depression whenever trying to quit smoking? You can break off those “shackles.” Just boost your dopamine levels naturally while balancing your central nervous system with the ultimate supplement and superfood blend, in a potent “shot” beverage called Krave Kicker. Anyone can end nicotine cravings naturally now without having to apply endless willpower.
Let the natural remedies do the work for you, and change your lifestyle for the better, starting right now. Escape nicotine forever, and do it naturally. Make that change and never look back again. Now is the time.
