How to Make Apple Vinegar – so very easy



I have a new project for you to try this weekend, making apple vinegar. This is the second fruit vinegar I’ve made and its really tasty and so very easy to make. First thing is that you’ll have to make an apple pie or apple tart or apple sauce this weekend. Make anything where you need to core and peel the apples. Save those cores and peels and put them into a bowl. The number of peels or apples isn’t really important, just add enough water to cover the apple scraps by an inch or two. Add a 1/4 c. of sugar to the mix, cover with a small plate and weight it down. In my case I did this with a ramekin filled with water.



Let it sit out, covered with a tea towel (to keep flies from getting in) for a week, until the liquid darkens. Yes, a little mold will form on top, that’s okay. Really.



Just spoon it off. After a week, strain out the apples and pour the soon-to-be-vinegar into a canning jar, fit with a square of cheesecloth and canning lid. This allows the vinegar to breath as well as keeps it from touching the metal, otherwise the metal will corrode. Leave it alone in your pantry for 6 weeks and then you’ll have vinegar. So easy, isn’t it?

Some people who want to start prepping often don't get started because of fear, thinking that they need to invest a lot of time and money into their preps.However, becoming a prepper doesn't have to break the bank. There are several things you can do to save money as a beginner prepper.
Remember that when it comes to prepping, looks aren't the most important. To become a true prepper, you don't need the latest and the most expensive gear.
Before SHTF, make sure that you have the preps you need to help your family survive an emergency, like a natural disaster. With that in mind, you can save money on your preps by repurposing things in your home, scavenging for supplies and visiting garage sales or flea markets.
Repurposing

First, check around your house and think of simple ways to repurpose old items that you don't use anymore.
Here are some tips on repurposing items around your homestead:

• Use old, worn clothing as cleaning rags. You can also use scraps of cloth to make a blanket.
• Don't throw glass jars away. Clean them thoroughly and use them to store leftovers or as unique drinking glasses.
• Turn old tires into swings for your kids or use them as pots or barriers in your home garden.
• Used wood can be repurposed into woodcraft projects.

Scavenging

Even if disaster doesn't strike, you can scavenge for useful items. The U.S. has become a disposable society and people often throw good things away all the time.
Find out the garbage collector's schedule and drive around the neighborhoods before he can get there. Garage sales and flea markets

Set aside time to browse and look for good deals at garage sales and flea markets. If you look hard enough, you’ll be amazed at what you can find at these events.
You may find canning jars, candles that you can melt down to turn into survival candles and other useful prepping supplies.
You can also find great deals on useful bug-out equipment. Keep an eye out for camping equipment. Most garage sales offer great deals on things like tents, sleeping bags and other camping gear for a cheaper price than what you normally pay for at the store.
