From 414-1 to 270 Co-Sponsors: Audit the Fed in Context

    From Politico:

On Wednesday afternoon, a small piece of (Ron Paul’s) grand vision will hit prime time, when a great majority of the House will vote to pass his Audit the Fed bill. To understand how remarkable this moment is — coming near the end of Paul’s congressional career — consider this: When Paul first introduced his bill a decade ago, it was written off as another piece of his far-flung libertarian worldview. For a long time, Paul was a lawmaker who was largely ignored by Washington — that guy on the losing end of 414-1 votes.

And now his Fed transparency bill has 270 co-sponsors — including the great majority of the Republican lawmakers and a good number of Democrats. It’s a sign that this issue has moved into the mainstream…

Paul’s relentless pursuit is backed by an energetic grass-roots movement, and he has made transparency of the Federal Reserve a national issue, not just some quirky back-burner debate.

During a floor debate on the bill, lawmaker after lawmaker gave kudos to Paul for his efforts.
“I want to appreciate and congratulate Dr. Ron Paul for his tireless pursuit of openness and transparency,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah). “Without his leadership, we wouldn’t be at this point today.”

Even presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney tweeted earlier in the week: “Ron Paul’s Audit The Fed bill is a reminder of his tireless efforts to promote sound money and a more transparent Federal Reserve.”

“I’m pleased. It’s something I’ve worked on for a long time, and it’s a good first step,” Paul told POLITICO. “It’s coming to the floor as a response to the American people, because I don’t have a whole lot of clout around here…”

“I like to think of it more as verifying that my approach is a little bit different than just becoming a powerful player and having an influence, versus really changing people’s minds,” he said. “Events have also brought it about because these last five years have been so important to the economy. If the crisis hadn’t hit, I don’t think I could have gotten as much attention.

“Government reflects the people, sometimes that happens slowly,” he said. “When the American people get upset, Congress listens…”

But the audit the Fed movement won’t end with the House vote if Paul’s son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), has his way. He said he couldn’t be happier for his dad’s efforts and said he hoped to announce Democratic co-sponsors for the bill in the Senate later this week.
“I think people came around to him. I also think over time, people have become more worried about Fed policies,” the younger Paul said. “Many conservatives who won’t go quite as far as my father would like to take them, have begun to question them. We think it’s not that controversial that the people through their representatives deserve to know what the Federal Reserve is doing, and I think if it came up for a vote in the Senate tomorrow, it would pass.”

Obama: Assault Rifles belong on battlefield. I thought this was the battlefield?

    Submitted by pmpowell001 on Thu, 07/26/2012 - 12:22in

It look like President Obama has reversed his stance on gun control.

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/jul/25/obama-calls-...

Apparently assault rifles belong on the battlefield of war. But, I thought America was the battlefield?? At least thats what Senator Graham said when he argued to do away with the 5th amendment and allow the military to act against our own citizens.

And isn't that the reason military drones need to be flying overhead?

If America is not the battlefield, why are 'urban military exercises' being conducted across the country, scarying US citizens?

Why are marines forming 'law enforcement battalions' to aid police?

Why is the federal government arming local police with military equipment?

Its time the government make up its mind, is America the battlefield or not? Its time the citizens get prepared... knowing our government, there won't be a declaration before they turn the army on us.

Veterans for Ron Paul March on the RNC !

    Fellow Americans,

If you care about this country, if you care about our Constitution, if you care about freedom, then you already understand the imperative of ensuring that Ron Paul is our next President, and that is the mission that we, Veterans for Liberty Super PAC, have taken on. Mission accomplishment requires that Ron Paul receives the majority of delegates at the Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay, Florida.

In the first round of voting, most delegates are bound by party rules to vote based on the results of their state primary. If there is not a clear winner of the first round of voting, the delegates become "unbound" and a second round of voting is held. The establishment will be hard at work, scrambling to build a coalition around another candidate. The delegates who are loyal to Ron Paul will not be swayed by false promises or handouts, but they will not yet be a majority. The fate of the nation will be in the hands of those several hundred delegate swing voters, who will have to choose between standing with the grassroots of the party, or the establishment that has demonstrated the attitude of Henry Kissinger, who famously said, "Military men are dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns for foreign policy."

Despite the rallying cry of supporting the troops that unites the GOP, there are many in our party who resist Ron Paul because of his foreign policy. They say it is dangerous, and refuse to listen to the troops who know better, who understand that a foreign policy based on the arbitrary whims of a government run amok is inferior to one based on the moral principles embedded in the Constitution. Like the only veteran in the race and like our nation's founders, we who have demonstrated an absolute commitment to national security understand that our nation is more secure without entangling alliances, and with a foreign policy of friendship, free trade, and allowing relations to be defined by individuals, not governments.

To make the point undeniably clear that Ron Paul is the choice of the troops, we are organizing the largest military lobbying effort for any candidate in American history and invite you to join us for the Veterans for Ron Paul March on the RNC. But this will be more than a march. We will be an undeniable presence at and around the RNC with signs, handouts, and the friendly smiling faces of the passionate men and women who understand that the oath they swore to the Constitution did not come with an expiration date.

We are asking all military veterans and active duty troops (in full observance of military regulations regarding political speech) who can furnish proof of service, to join us at FOB Domestic Defense the week of August 27th where food, campsites, GP tents, and cots will be provided for the entire duration of the RNC. The organization of this event will be fully transparent, and we will make every effort possible to coordinate with local law enforcement agencies, as well as convention security. Our security detail will consist of volunteer police officers and retired police officers and will be led by Constable Robert Pepe. For more information about how to get involved and support this event, please go to ronpaulisthechoiceofthetroops.com.

To our fellow veterans, your oath to the Constitution did not come with an expiration date and your country still needs you. The troops still serving and yet to serve still need you. Ron Paul has stood for the Constitution his entire career and risked his life standing up for your freedom. This may be the last chance you ever get - will you stand with Dr. Paul? The last time veterans marched for Ron Paul, two men raised a brigade in a month and a half. Now we have six months. Will you help us raise a division?

    Sincerely,

    Adam Kokesh, USMC, Fallujah '04
    Nathan Cox, USA, Baghdad, '07-'08
    Zakery Carter, USA, Baghdad, '03

This stinks more and more each day! Media says shooter's package sat in the mailroom for a week, however, school says it arrived day after the shooting.

Staging the events for public consumption. I call complete BS on this!! If my memory of history serves me well, we can anticipate a "disgruntled family member" of one of the shooting victims to take justice into their own hands to silence him so that the "official story" is sold.

Paul’s Fed Audit Bill Passes House

July 26, 2012 by Sam Rolley

    UPI FILE
For a decade, Ron Paul has been trying to get his Fed audit bill passed.

Ron Paul’s revolutionary bill to audit the Federal Reserve passed the House of Representatives overwhelmingly by a vote of 327-98 on Wednesday afternoon.

Paul’s bill received backing from all House Republicans but one (Representative Bob Turner of New York), as well as support from 89 Congressional Democrats.

Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) said of the bill:

“The Fed creates trillions of dollars out of nothing and gives it to banks.

    Congress is in the dark.

The Fed sets the stage for the subprime meltdown.

    Congress is in the dark.

The Fed takes a dive on LIBOR.

    Congress is in the dark.

The Fed doesn’t tell regulators what is going on.

    Congress is in the dark.”

He also noted that the vote occurred the same day The Washington Post published a damning story about how the New York Fed “did not communicate in key meetings with top regulators that British bank Barclays had admitted to Fed staffers that it was rigging LIBOR,” the index that sets interest rates worldwide.

Despite the victory, a Senior Senate Democratic aide said the bill isn’t likely to go anywhere in that chamber in the near future, according to the Huffington Post.
