It is sad that Napolitano has failed to do her job.Now another brave person has lost his life, and a family has lost a loved one. This was an avoidable death ! It is an outrage ! All Americans should be angry. At what point did illegals become more important than Americans?

Border agent killed in unusual violence within U.S.

CHULA VISTA, California (AP) — Federal investigators scrambled Friday to find whoever shot a U.S. Border Patrol agent in the head in an unusually violent attack within the U.S. that has left a baffling trail of evidence.

Agent Robert Rosas, a 30-year-old, married father of two young children, was killed shortly after 9 p.m. local time Thursday while responding alone to a suspected border incursion near Campo, a town in rugged, arid terrain in southeastern San Diego County.

He was shot in the head and multiple times in his body and was dead when backup agents arrived, said Keith Slotter, special agent in charge of the FBI's San Diego bureau.

Rosas was found outside his patrol vehicle near the border fence, with blood evidence indicating at least one suspect and possibly more had serious injuries, perhaps by gunfire.

Investigators don't yet know how many shots were fired, if Rosas fired any shots himself and how many guns were used.

"It's all possible. I can't definitively say X number of people fired or Agent Rosas got off shots or didn't. I mean, it's too early in the investigation to say that with any certainty," Slotter said.

Police in Tecate, Mexico, announced late Friday that they had arrested a man walking near the crime scene with a Border Patrol-issued weapon shortly after the shooting, the Los Angeles Times reported. The man, Ernesto Parra Valenzuela, 36, was injured and taken to a hospital, according to a news release.

But the FBI said late Friday that while law enforcement agencies were pursuing "a number of leads," in the United States and in Mexico, no one had been arrested or charged with killing the agent.

Federal officials have expressed growing concerns that the drug cartel battles plaguing Mexico could spill into the United States with the targeting of U.S. law enforcement officials.

Slotter said there was no indication that Rosas had been specifically targeted or that he had been trying to seize drugs from the suspects when he was killed.

However, he said investigators aren't ruling out the possibility that Rosas was slain by drug smugglers or even human smugglers.

"My thoughts and condolences are with Agent Rosas' family and his fellow agents at this difficult time," said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement.

"His death is a vivid reminder that we are engaged in a serious effort to secure our border and that thousands of Border Patrol agents and other DHS employees risk their lives every single day to protect and defend our nation."

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a suspect or suspects.

Authorities said at least one other agent in the field heard gunshots after Rosas left to respond to the call and couldn't reach Rosas on his radio afterward.

Investigators said they were searching for at least two suspects and have notified hospitals on both sides of the border to be alert for patients with suspicious or unexplained injuries.

Rosas was the first Border Patrol agent to die in a shooting in more than a decade, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page Inc., which tracks fallen officers using information provided by law enforcement agencies. Another agent, Luis Aguilar, was intentionally run over by a fleeing man driving a drug-laden Hummer in January 2008.

Rosas, a three-year Border Patrol veteran, had a 2-year-old son and an 11-month-old daughter, said Richard Barlow, acting chief patrol agent for the Border Patrol's San Diego sector.

"Everybody's disgusted, disgusted that a criminal can do this," he said. "The violence against the agents, the violence against this country is something that should not, and will not, be tolerated."

Barlow said he could not confirm reports that Rosas called for backup and then went ahead before anyone arrived. But he said it isn't unusual for agents to work alone along the 60 miles of border in the San Diego sector.

"It is a common occurrence for our agents to start tracking individuals or start pursuing individuals that make an incursion into the United State by himself prior to backup arriving," he said.

Barlow said the area where Rosas was shot wasn't the highest priority for agents, but there had recently been areas of increased activity in the agency's Campo area.

The San Diego sector of the Border Patrol has seen a 22% decrease in border apprehensions this year after a 7% increase in each of the previous two years. Still, Barlow said, agents routinely have rocks thrown at them and are physically assaulted.

The president of the union representing 17,000 Border Patrol agents declined to discuss the details of the shooting but said his organization has long been concerned about staffing levels and situations where agents work alone in the field.

Such situations are not uncommon, said T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council.

"It's fairly common for our agents throughout San Diego County and the rest of the country to work without a partner," Bonner said. "They each have separate vehicles, and it's a matter of concern with us."

Since 1919, 108 Border Patrol agents have died on duty, according to The Officer Down Memorial Page Inc., which tracks law-enforcement deaths. Gunfire was the leading cause with 30 deaths, followed by automobile accidents and aircraft accidents.

The National Border Patrol Council is deeply saddened and angered by the brutal murder of Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas. He was following a group of people who had crossed the border illegally into Campo, California (in eastern San Diego County) on the evening of July 23rd when he was fatally shot several times by unidentified assailants who fled back into Mexico immediately after the shooting.

The events surrounding this senseless tragedy are currently being investigated by the FBI. The National Border Patrol Council is refraining from commenting on the specific details of the case to avoid jeopardizing the investigation and in hopes of expediting the capture of those who are responsible for this murder.

This latest act of violence along our border highlights the extreme dangers that Border Patrol Agents face while protecting the United States from the illegal entry of persons, drugs, weapons, and other contraband. Border Patrol Agents routinely work alone in remote areas due to the lack of manpower. Agent Rosas is the 108th Border Patrol Agent to lose his life in the line of duty, with 21 of those deaths occurring during the past decade.

Agent Rosas entered on duty with the U.S. Border Patrol on May 22, 2006, as a member of the 621st Session of the U.S. Border Patrol Academy. He is survived by his wife, a two-year-old son and an 11-month-old daughter.

Information about the memorial services and a memorial fund will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

    Sent to Schumer:

    Greetings Mr. Schumer:

Don't even think for a moment that Americans will be suckered by your amnesty ploy. We want illegal aliens DEPORTED, not made citizens. Get with the program.

    The border is secure, huh?

Here are a few more examples of "handiwork" comitted by those who cross the border "looking to contribute to America":

    Oh yeah, google "Dani Countryman"...

Be honest with yourself. You have NO idea of the number of scum that resides within the illegal alien contingent, yet you want to allow them to become American citizens?

Americans do NOT want amnesty. Why don't you and your crew put it up for vote to the citizens rather than what you and your cronies want? Make sure the ballots are written in plain ENGLISH, with all the "benefits" Americans will attain by granting amnesty to 20+ MILLION. I'll bet you a taco that Americans don't want Amnesty.

Our voice is strong, and we are well aware of your chicanery. I am but one of many. We will vote your ilk out of office in a heartbeat.

PS: Please forward this to Obama and Nappy.

Mexican officials have four suspects related to the border patrol killing.

    Associated Press

    July 25, 2009
MEXICO CITY - Mexican federal police say they have detained four men suspected of involvement in the killing of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas.

The 30-year-old, married father of two young children was gunned down Thursday night while investigating a suspected border incursion in a remote area in southeastern San Diego County, Calif.

Elias Alvarez Hernandez, the federal police coordinator in Mexico's Baja California, says the four suspects are allegedly part of an immigrant smuggling ring. Twenty-one immigrants were found with them when they were detained near Tecate Saturday.

Hernandez says the suspects are two brothers and two taxi drivers who allegedly worked for them. Police seized four guns during the detentions.

Hernandez told a news conference that one of the suspects told police another man detained Friday with a 9mm pistol in his possession is the one who shot agent Rosas.
