DEARBORN HEIGHTS/DETROIT - Epigmenio Gomez of Dearborn Heights will be sentenced next week to life in prison for his role in the brutal murder of 16-year-old Cathleen Jassmine Hahn, a Southfield resident found dear earlier this year outside Gomez's north end apartment.

It took a Wayne County jury approximately 45 minutes to convict Gomez of first-degree murder Tuesday in Third Circuit Court. The conviction carries a mandatory life sentence.

"This conviction means that the right thing happened here today," said Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Carin Goldfarb.

Gomez was convicted of stabbing, beating and strangling the Southfield teen in his second-floor apartment sometime between 11:10 p.m. on Feb. 2 and 7:45 a.m. on Feb 3. Her mutilated body was later discovered on the ground outside the apartment.

It had been wrapped in a sheet and tossed over the second floor balcony by Gomez, who testified in court Tuesday that he did not remember killing the Southfield teen.
