What gold value? The dollar is only worth 1.324 gallons of seawater, or 10.776 cubic feet of thin air, thank you very much George Bush and the Federal Reserve.

Well that's about what I mean, in 1848 a one ounce gold piece was worth $20 (gold was actually the currency back then), now you need $900 to get an ounce of gold!

ACTUALLY NO LAND WAS STOLEN FROM THE AMERICAN INDIANS SINCE THEY DID NOT BELIEVE IN LAND OWNERSHIP. THEY WERE NOMADIC AND TRAVELED FROM PLACE TO PLACE. ALTHOUGH THEIR LIFESTYLE WAS DESTROYED BY THE SPANISH, AND LATER THE WHITE SETTLERS, STILL THEY NEVER OWNED THE LAND.....EVEN ACCORDING TO THEM.

The mentality that Mexicans base their claim on the SW is on 2 weak and mutually exclusive foundations. 1. The myth that ancient Aztecs migrated to present day Mexico from "the North." And 2. The American SW used to belong to Mexico.

#2 is true, but weak for several reasons, and why they tie #1 into the mix. The Mexicans that occupied the land were white Europeans. Only several thousand of them, and only for about 3 decades. Aztecs never lived on this land. American Indians did, but they were servants of the Spanish, were not considered a real part of the nation. Mexicans can not trace their heritage to the Indians that lived in the American SW.

So what the La Raza types have done is tie these two concepts together for their purposes of reconquista. By clinging to their indigineous roots, and claiming that the land was "stolen' from Mexico -- even though the land was "stolen" from white men. Makes no difference to them. It provides a convenient place for where the Aztecs migrated from. Even though the Spanish settlements in the SW have nothing to do with where the Aztecs did or did not migrate from.
Serve Bush with his letter of resignation.

    See you at the signing!!

Which translates to about $313 million by today's standards.
And that was for just dry dirt and rocks.

These Mexicans are "irredentists." Irredentists are people who believe that a part of their country that now belongs to ANOTHER country should be RETURNED to its former country. However, I always remind the Mexican irredentists that the REAL Mexico is a LONG way SOUTH of HERE in Dallas, TX, and then you HAVE to CROSS the RIVER!

In 1848 treaty officially ended the mexico war and legally turned over most of the southwest to the United States. Average American doesnt know much about the mexican war and thinks about it less. But in mexico they think about it alot. In mexico everybody knows that " The US took half our National territory." La Intervencion Northamericana has been discribed by mexican writer, and nobel laureate octavio Paz, as "one of the most unjust wars of conquest in History." Not only that but the loss of mexicos northern territories has been used as a reason, as an excuse really for the economic failures of mexico compared to the economic success of the USA.
According to at least one poll conducted in 2002 by Zogby in mexico 58% of residents agree with the statement " the territory of the US southwest rightfully belongs to mexico". In a lighter vein some mexicans quip that when the USA took half of mexicos territory we took the half of the paved roads. Some Americans are shocked to learn that mexicans actually have a different historical perspective than we do. How dare mexicans say the US took the southwest from mexico?

Oh for goodness sake, what would they possibly do with it? They can't even run their OWN country now, just as they couldn't run it then.
