More money for Hispanics (who are largely Catholic) means more money for the Church of Rome. It's that simple, and I doubt that any pressure from the flock is going to change that reality.

Why is Congress even listening to Representatives of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops? I do not believe their motives are as pure as they would like us to believe. It's no secret that the Catholic Church has been losing a lot of followers in the United States. It's also no secret that many of the Latin American illegals are catholic. Honestly, I do believe some of their actions are motivated by concern, but I do not believe that is the full story. Furthermore, what about separation of church and state? Who are they to attempt to sway what they certainly know is for the most part a political issue?

I am also a Catholic and I am DISGUSTING with the Bishops' attitude.

I do not think we can do anything to change their minds, but, in my little way, I am rebelling: No more money to their charities. And some of my friends are doing the same.

We are also writing them protesting their support to people who are breaking the country's law. They are condoning and supporting criminals.

I've heard that in Mexico, a clergyman can only be a national. They do not allow immigrants to be preist.

The Catholics will loose control, if the Mexicans are sent home to Mexico.

there are some that say that the church shouldn't get into this debate. right or not is not point. i just hope that these people would have the same talking points if the church were to sound like tancredo. that they would be calling the irs too. and if they are against the church from entering the debate, then i should also hope they are against the church when they speak out on the enviroment or abortion.

most of you here know that illegals in mexico face many troubles and dangers. the pope himself told the mexican bishops to fight for these individuals. to take care of them and tend to their spiritual needs. mother church is being consistent.

again, if the church is to lose its tax status for sounding like maldef, it should also do so if it were to sound like tancredo. lou dobbs doesn't get that. doesn't even think about it. i hope that some here would at least see that.

    First of all, withhold tithing.

Don't give them or any of their subsidiaries, e.g. the diocesan schools, charities, etc., a red cent.

That's what Voice of The Faithful advocated-if I'm not mistaken-and it's what you should do.

I was baptised Catholic, but that doesnt mean I am a practicing Catholic. I've left that church a long time ago, way before all the scandals were even made public.
The Catholic church is the same as Big Business, folllow the money. Hispanics have a history of crime and corruption, and sexual abuse is no stranger to them. They figure, forgiveness and acceptance will make it all go away. And the church leaders KNOW this is true. Thats WHY they are rallying around hispanics and their fight for illegal immigration. Because they have DISINVITED most of their parishoners with scandals.
You dont see alkot of other religious leaders from Jewish, Baptist, Methodist and many others getting into politics very often. They know better not to mix the two.

i guess we do. so do black and whites and asians. and i am glad you aren't a practicing Catholic (you will always be one til the day you die) since you don't understand the principles of forgiveness. and you do know that protestant ministers have a higher % of sexual abuse? probably not. that doesn't mean they are wrong in theology or why i'm not protestant, but is the truth. look it up.

alipac, please deal with mr/ms butterbean.

but Protestants do get involved in politics

Strange but when I open my eyes I see more Protestants and Jews getting involved in politics than Catholics. Protestant clergy have been involved in politics since before the beginning of the country; some of them signed the Declaration of Independence. We even have a national holiday named after one of them--the Reverand Martin Luther King.
